Bag of Randomness for Friday, October 6, 2023

  • Even though I’m getting stronger, and no longer have to use a cane or walker, I had a friend from church drive me to my neurosurgeon’s office for him to look at my infected incision. It was a good choice considering how bad the roads were because of the storms. We left a half-hour early and still were thirty minutes late. I say all that just to say that I’m getting better at asking and accepting help.
  • He and his PA were like Dr. Pimple Popper draining the infection. They were surprised at how much puss came out.
  • My doctor was 50/50 on sending me back to the hospital to work on the infected incision. He decided to prescribe antibiotics, for me to change the bandage twice a day, refer me to a wound specialist, and come back and see him next week.
  • I miss my kids. It would be great to spend some time with them and give them a big hug.
  • I’ve lost so much weight I had to buy a new belt.
  • I wish I could find somebody to watch the TX/OU game with.
  • I’m doing what I can to focus on just making myself better.

Bag of Randomness for Thursday, October 5, 2023

  • I woke up in a wet bed yesterday morning. A lot of puss/fluid drained out of the surgery incision site on my back. I called the neurosurgeon’s office and they asked me to send pictures. That’s not the easiest thing to do, to take good-lit pictures of your back. The PA seemed pretty concerned and asked me to come in first thing in the morning and was calling in a prescription. And, as a precaution, do not drink or eat anything after midnight in the small chance they need to take me in for an even deeper look.

Bag of Randomness for Wednesday, October 4, 2023

  • Hey folks, I’m sorry I haven’t made any updates in a while. And a huge thank you to everyone who reached out in concern. To make a long story short, I was hospitalized on Thursday of last week and got discharged mid-afternoon on Monday. I was in unbearable pain.
  • I didn’t have my phone with me and had no access to the internet. That was an interesting experience. And oddly, I find I’m not using my phone as much even though I have it with me.
  • I feel so much better today, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Today, for the first time in months, I didn’t have to use my walker or cane to move about. I still have stiffness in my lower lumber area, walking a bit slow, and it’s difficult to make that transition from sitting to standing and bending over. But for the first time in a long time, I have hope that I will no longer consistently be in unbearable pain. I may finally be over the hump. I’m looking forward to playing catch with my kids again one day.
  • I hope I never have to ride in an ambulance again.
  • I don’t sleep well in hospitals. It’s great to sleep in your own bed after being gone for so long.
  • It looks like I’ll be going back to court. I pray we can settle things outside of court through our lawyers, and I can alleviate any concerns. I fear my blog will be used against me again and things will be taken out of context.
  • Ugh, medical and lawyer bills.
  • I have a new outlook on life and have found a certain peace in things that weren’t there before.
  • My new employer has been super gracious.
  • It’s a great feeling being reunited with pets.
  • I’m grateful for my church family. So many people in my small group stepped up to extend grace and make me feel that I was loved and things were being taken care of, like my two dogs.
  • I’m not sure what the future of the blog will be. I do want to keep it going and make daily posts, but there will have to be some hurdles to jump over first.
  • For all of you who stop by each day, I appreciate you so very much. I’m sorry I’ve let you down and hope to be more consistent in posting.

Bag of Randomness for Tuesday, September 19, 2023

  • Sorry for the lack of posts lately. Things have been a bit crazy around here.
  • I started to experience excruciating abdominal pains which were also hurting my back. There was no way I could drive myself to the hospital, so I called an ambulance That was a first for me. Surprisingly, the dogs behaved exceptionally well with all the paramedics in the house. I was released the following morning.
  • So much for trying to make it through September without medical insurance, I’m going to have to retroactively activate COBRA.
  • BunnyGeeding died last night. The kids took it hard. It costs $355 to have him cremated and placed in a pine box urn.
