  • There was a funny exchange between Bob Sturm and Mike Holmgren, one of his favorite Green Bay Packers coaches, in reference to the street named after him.  It’s even funnier when you consider that both are men of strong Christian faith:
    Bob – I’ve driven on your street.
    Holmgren – Have you been to the Hooters on my street?

  • Last year 125 prisoners in the U.S. were exonerated of crimes they didn’t commit, it was the most in 25 years.
  • With smartphones, I’m surprised there’s still a need for graphing calculators, but this article states that teachers often don’t allow the use of smartphones to prevent cheating (those teens like to text).  When I taught an accelerated finance course geared to working adults as an adjunct, which involved things like time value of money and amortization, I told my students to bring their laptops instead of a business calculator.  My reasoning was people in finance never use a business calculator in today’s world (they’re dinosaurs), either their workplace has a special program or they use spreadsheets.  So I taught my students how to use a spreadsheet and set up formulas to find their answers and how easy it was to plug in different numbers to find different answers without having to repeat steps, like a calculator.  Besides, if I could save my students $30-$80 bucks, I would.
  • The new TI-84 graphing calculator is 30% lighter and thinner, and has a longer battery life.
  • Tonight is the season three premiere of ‘The American’s’ on FX.  I hear this season the first three or four episodes get off to a slow start.
  • I always get a kick out of a Stan Lee cameo, and seeing him on ‘Agent Carter’ last night was quite a surprise.  He also has a very recognizable voice.  And regarding the show, I certainly didn’t see one plot twist coming that involved one of the apartment girls.
  • The new GoDaddy Super Bowl puppy commercial was done in very poor taste, but they got what they wanted – attention and name recognition, even if they decided to pull it.
  • Cowboys Emmitt Smith and Larry Allen as well as some other NFL greats will be in a Super Bowl commercial about website building promoting their fake businesses, and those fake businesses are up and running now.  Seeing Larry Allen, oh nevermind, I don’t want to spoil it for anyone that wants to wait and see it for themselves.
  • I’ve started to notice “entertaining” reporter bios on the sidebar on the Dallas Morning News website.  For instance, this article is penned by Cheryl Hall and her bio is on the right sidebar.  Also, everytime I see their tiny “D” icon in the tab of my browser, my first thought is of the Detroit Tigers hat.

  • I got a double dose of Letterman last night.  Of course, there was his show, and then he was a guest on the ‘Late Late Show’ which Regis is hosting.  I’ve never seen Dave so laid back and open-hearted.  Paul was by his side, and it was so touching to watch him as Dave complimented their partnership and his appreciation for him.
  • I knew Letterman and Regis were friends, but I didn’t think they were this close – Regis told “Late Late Show” guest Martin Short that Dave took care of his hospital arrangements and was there for him throughout the entire process, telling him everything was going to be fine.
  • He’ll do anything for love but what’s that thing he won’t do? – 50 years later, Meat Loaf’s returning to Dallas’ Thomas Jefferson High as a distinguished alumnus – He was great in Fight Club.

  • I almost didn’t post this article because of my biblical pet peeve, referring to the book of Revelation as Revelations – Does Your Church Decide Your College Education?
    A study links congregations’ interpretations of the Bible with college degrees—especially for those who don’t take the Bible literally.
  • Take a Sad Song and Make It Better – For years, I couldn’t listen to the Beatles ballad that’s indelibly linked to my mother’s death. Then my one-year-old daughter helped me start to make it better.

I liked how he blended Captain America and Return of the Jedi scenes, and thought it was creative that it was the Death Star that destroy Krypton.
