I don’t want to live anymore

Man’s Kidneys Fail After Drinking Too Much Tea: Case Study

(Reuters Health) – – The puzzling case of a 56-year-old U.S. man who suddenly developed weakness, fatigue and body aches is leading doctors to warn that massive consumption of tea may be responsible for some unexplained cases of kidney failure.

Woman Wrote Her Own Obituary Before Dying Of Cancer

You can read the whole thing here, but this piece really stood out to me:

I remember cutting small rosebuds still wet with dew to wear to school on spring mornings, and I remember the smell of newly mowed grass. I remember the thrill of leading our high school band down King Street in New Orleans for Mardi Gras (I was head majorette). I remember representing Waynesville in the Miss North Carolina Pageant, and yes, I twirled my baton to the tune of “Dixie.” It could have been no other way.

And this part towards the end also caught my attention:

So…I was born; I blinked; and it was over. No buildings named after me; no monuments erected in my honor.

But I DID have the chance to know and love each and every friend as well as all my family members. How much more blessed can a person be?

So in the end, remember…do your best, follow your arrow, and make something amazing out of your life. Oh, and never stop smiling.

If you want to, you can look for me in the evening sunset or with the earliest spring daffodils or amongst the flitting and fluttering butterflies. You know I’ll be there in one form or another.

  • I’m not sure how many people actually saw my April Fools’ Day joke yesterday.  If you went to this website directly yesterday morning, you saw it, but you wouldn’t have seen it if you used some sort of aggregate like Feedly or an RSS reader.
  • I was all smiles watching the April Fools’ Day episode of ‘The Price is Right’.  A few years ago, Bob Barker made a surprise appearance and seemed lethargic and slurred his words, but yesterday, the 91-year-old knocked it out of the park.  The show started off with the introduction of Drew Carey but Barker walked out and the crowd went bonkers.  He didn’t do the whole show, just the first bidding and first game, and then closed the show with his signature sign-off.  And of course he gave away a car.  Can you believe it’s been seven years he’s been off the show?  Carey took over in 2007.
  • After James Corden’s first ‘Late Late Show’ I made a comment about how the celebrity guests walked timidly down stairs trying not to trip while high-fiving the audience.  On yesterday’s April Fools’ episode, Katie Couric had a stunt double fall down the stairs and the reaction of Corden and the audience was shock and silence.  Knowing that it’s going to happen and watching it on video it looks a bit staged, but to actually be there in the moment and not have a good line of sight, I’m sure it seemed real.  You can watch the stunt here.
  • Last nights’ ‘The American’s’ referenced Strat-O-Matic Football twice.  I’ve never heard of it, but from how it was described, it sure sounds fun.

  • Jeff Pearlman recently interviewed Michael Dukakis, who is currently teaching at UCLA.  Of course there’s liberal bias in this interview, but it was interesting to hear a man in his eighties reflect on a failed presidential, his time as governor, and his assessment of the current political climate.
  • Speaking of politics, I’m about to make a contribution to Land Commissioner George P. Bush’s re-election fund as he just banned the use of Comic Sans in all agency documents and correspondence.  Nothing screams lack of professionalism than the use of that typeface.  Although, I thought he was an odd choice to be the inaugural recipient of the University of Texas Latino Leadership Award, he’s only been working in his first elected office gig for three months and there have been many other Texas Latinos that have done more and lived in the state much longer.
  • There are only 30 shows left for David Letterman before he retires.  Last night, for the first time in a long time, he didn’t have a musical guest booked on the show.
  • Dr Pepper must have some sort of contract with ABC.  The other day I mentioned the obvious product placement of the beverage on ‘Fresh Off The Boat’ and on last night’s ‘Modern Family’ it was specifically mentioned.
