Virgin Just Got Into The Hotel Business

Their first hotel is in Chicago, and like their airline, they want to rock the boat.  The idea of calling rooms, “chambers”, is a bit out there, but I’ll go along with it.

Virgin’s First Hotel Got Rid of Everything We Hate About Hotels

  • Virgin’s new hotel, its first, in Chicago has an exceptional minibar. All of the items — from the Peanut M&M’s to the red wine to the little packets of Emergen-C — are priced at street prices.
  • The Virgin hotel has free and open Wi-Fi throughout the property.
  • Two rooms on each floor are pet friendly and marked by an obedient pooch statue chained to the outside of the door.
  • The televisions are smart TVs so you can easily stream Netflix or movies from your own device.
  • Need a ride? The house car here is a Tesla and will take you anywhere within a 2-mile radius.

  • WifeGeeding won an argument yesterday.  I stated that Thanksgiving is always the last Thursday in November and she retorted it was actually the fourth Thursday in November as there are sometimes five Thursdays in November.  She was correct.
  • With the news that Atticus Finch may not be the man of ideals we thought he was, I’m wondering if parents that have recently named their kids after him are experiencing a bit of cognitive dissonance.  They shouldn’t, no one’s perfect.  Besides, you have to consider that Go Set A Watchman was written before Mockingbird, so the Atticus everyone fell in love with is the most recent one.  But then again, one has to consider what he became, what he grew into…okay, this is getting confusing, I just wouldn’t be concerned about the name.
  • When it comes to politics I’m certainly not a conservative, but if I was, I think Gov. Scott Walker would be my guy.  He’s a Christian, fought unions and won, and beat them again after a bitter recall, and he can really play up that “man of the people” label since he never graduated college and still was able to obtain the top job in his state.  Oh, and he definitely knows what a sandwich is.

  • I was watching the latest episode of ‘Naked and Afraid’ and a woman cut her finger to the bone with a machete that needed medical attention.  A small medic crew arrived on the scene and she was given two options by the producers: (1.) Get stitches without any anesthetic and risk infection and continue on with the challenge. (2.) Leave (quit) the challenge and get the proper medical care in a hospital.  She decided to stay in the challenge and get the stitches without anesthetic stating that quitting would hurt more.

  • Flags will be at half-mast on the 26th of each month until June 2016 – The County Commission of Dent County, Missouri, voted unanimously today to lower flags on two county buildings to protest the U.S. Supreme Court’s June 26 decision legalizing gay marriage — or, as the county’s presiding commissioner puts it, “the U.S. high court’s stamp of approval of what God speaks of as an abomination.”
  • Jimmy Fallon’s first guest last night was Paul Rudd who was promoting his new Ant Man movie.  When it was time to view the clip, it actually went to a clip of Rudd’s appearance on David Letterman’s old show introducing the clip.
  • DaughterGeeding is going to a charter school next year and she can only have a blue or black backpack.  Just before we knew of her acceptance, I did some spring cleaning and donated a brand new black backpack given to me by a former employer.  At the timg I thought if all it was doing was collecting dust, someone should benefit from it and off it went to a charitable organization.
  • If you are interested in following NASA’s New Horizon as it flys by Pluto, here are some Twitter handles worth following:  @NewHorizonsBot and @NASANewHorizons
  • How far is Pluto?  Here’s some analysis.  It takes 8.3 minutes for light from the sun to hit Earth.  It takes 5.5 hours for sunlight to hit Pluto.  For us to communicate with it, it takes 4.5 hours to reach the spacecraft.  It’s amazing we can send something so far away, traveling about 31,000 miles per hour, and reach a moving object and then get pictures and data back.
