- I bought a cordless Hoover vacuum cleaner off Amazon which arrived in the mail yesterday, but the removable battery wouldn’t charge. Per the instructions, if the light on the charger blinked red, you had to call the company, which I was dreading; however, I had a great experience. There was no phone tree, not even an option to “Press 1 for English”, and a nice well-spoken man named Tim from Ohio answered my call which lasted no longer than five minutes. End result, a new battery is being mailed to me and they have one happy customer who is telling his massive blog readership of four humans (sometimes up to seven) about the experience.
- A great song with a great beat from the 90’s that I haven’t heard in a long while – YouTube – Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth with Money in My Hand … – You may not remember the song from the title, but the moment you hear the first few notes, it will be stuck in your head all day.
- That song reminds me of one of my favorite Volkswagon commercials – Both songs just make you bop your head nonchalantly.
- Cute GIF of the day – My red car is bigger than your red car
- Interesting GIF of the day – Filming people having a conversation in the front seat of a moving vehical
- She’s probably never gonna let him live this done (on second thought, I should have phrased that differently) – Nine-year-old raises $500 through lemonade stand to help pay for brother’s heart surgery
- While watching ‘The Simpsons’ last night, I learned Ralph Wiggum’s name was inspired by Ralph Abernathy, a leader of the Civil Rights Movement, a minister, and Martin Luther King Jr.’s closest friend.
- That episode also had a Lady Godiva reference which made me look up her Wikipedia page which lead me to this interesting tidbit – The name “Peeping Tom” for a voyeur originates from later versions of this legend in which a man named Tom watched her ride and was struck blind or dead.
- Local wrestling fans of the Von Erichs may enjoy following Kevin Von Erich on Twitter where he’ll occassionaly post old photos of him and the famlily during their hey day. In one tweet last night, he stated he’s a strong Trump supporter. He also found a Duracell flashlight that he likes better than a Maglite.
- Sadly, there’s more/new Baylor sexual assault news about a football player that was recently dismissed from the team – Dolores Lozano, who graduated from Baylor University in 2014, told former ESPN reporter Joe Schad that the former Baylor running back assaulted her three times. Lozano also said that former head coach Art Briles and current assistant coach Jeff Lebby, were both aware of the assault. Lebby is Brile’s son-in-law, according to the Dallas Morning News’ Chuck Carlton.
- Yesterday I learned why Baylor won’t release the Pepper Hamilton report – because it was presented orally and there’s not a written report – Baylor will not release the full report that law firm Pepper Hamilton delivered to the university regarding its handling of sexual assault allegations because the findings were originally presented orally, interim president David Garland wrote.
- That’s a very strategic move, but very shady, doesn’t show good faith, and totally lacks transparency. It reminds me of President Bill Clinton asking what the definition of “is” is.
- Baylor suspends 2 players for violations of team rules – Junior college offensive lineman B.J. Autry (Coffeyville CC) and defensive tackleJeremy Faulk(Garden City CC), two members of Baylor’s 2016 recruiting class, have been suspended for a violation of team rules, according to Baylor247.

- Similar to Dick Cheney, I think – This 25-year-old lived for more than a year without a heart – A 25-year-old has just received a full heart transplant… but not before surviving for more than a year without a human heart inside his body. Instead, Stan Larkin wore an ‘artificial heart’ in a backpack 24/7 for 555 days, which pumped blood around his body and kept him alive.

Danica McKellar – From Child Actor to Mathematician

Bag of Randomness for Tuesday, June 7, 2016
- I’ve mentioned we’re a one-car family and it works out quite well for the most part since I work from home. However, our the car has been in the shop since Friday. A neighbor was nice enough to loan us her SUV during this time. When she dropped it off at our house and handed me the keys, she said she set the radio station to The Ticket because she knew I’m a P1.
- Something that drives me crazy – when a tiny speaker on a device is on a very high volume level it’s really not meant to be on.
- I love the comedy you’ll find in the Airplane!, Hot Shots!, and Nake Gun movies, so I’ve taken a huge liking towards the TBS series ‘Angie Tribeca’ which had its season premiere last night. Jon Hamm had a bit part, and I mean it was a bit part. He wasn’t even on screen for 30-seconds and his only line had three words.
- I’m a big fan of illusionist David Copperfield and The Daily Beast has a good interview with him. A few tidbits:
- He states Leonardo da Vinci co-wrote the first book on magic.
- Speaks about having a personal relationship with God.
- Considers David Blane a buddy and “the real deal”.
- States Houdini as a role model but not a great magician.
- He holds 11 Guinness World Records but I can’t find what specific eleven, even on Guinness’ website.

- Ever wake up to a numb, dead arm? Here’s what’s happening. – Dyck explained there’s a common misconception that pins and needles and numbness are caused by a lack of blood flow to the nerves. “The more likely thing is nerve compression — nerves are being pushed on and squashed, and that causes these symptoms,” he says.

- For my fellow ‘Game of Thrones’ fans who was curious as to why the show started non-traditionally with a cold open (spoiler warning if you haven’t seen the latest episode) – Why the cold open? The production has to put The Hound actor Rory McCann’s name in the opening credits and, as GoT writer Bryan Cogman explains, that would have spoiled the reveal if fans saw his name before his character appeared.
