Evangelical Christians Moving to the Left?

“This interest in what are often considered “liberal” issues marks the rise of a younger and more moderate leadership among evangelicals. Paradoxically, these new leaders are more “religious” than the old guard of the religious right. The difference, one could argue, is that they are more concerned about actually following Jesus, who had much to say about violence and the poor, but said nothing about gays or a strong military, and who was put to death by torture. The appearance of these new social concerns means that something important is afoot in the vast evangelical community of America. It is simply no longer accurate to identify “evangelical” with “religious right.””

In case you didn’t know because I surely didn’t

There is no longer a Bombay, India.  The new name for Bombay is Mumbai.

Why?  Here is what I found:

In 1995, the Shiv Sena, a Hindu nationalist party, which was the ruling party in the government of the state of Maharashtra (of which Bombay was capital) decided to change Bombay’s official name into its Marathi name, Mumbai, claiming that the name Bombay is a corrupted form of the original name Mumbai connoting the pre-independence British influence.

But when it comes to Ho Chi Minh City, I’ll forever call it Saigon.  It’s my nonverbal middle finger to the communist government that assassinated my mother’s father.

Oh, and Auschwitz got a new name.
