  • We haven’t really talked about politics with our kids, other than the basics of how an election and democracy works. But after telling DaughterGeeding who won the election first thing yesterday morning, she immediately wanted to was call her grandmother and ask her to stock up on Oreos. If you recall, she was in the room when I was watching the news and Trump was leading a chant of “no more Oreos.” Also, OtherDogGeeding’s real name is Oreo.
  • All the Trump voters deserve their time in the sun and to gloat to a certain extent. They simply exercised their right to vote and they showed up – the way a democracy should work. It was a long election, an emotional one, and they expressed themselves in the most patriotic way, voting. As for those that decided to protest the election (and I have no idea exactly what they were protesting) let them get that second stage of grief out of their system, and let them move on. Most were young and didn’t know how else to express themselves.
  • Funny thing, it’s hard to realize both sides of the political divide love their country and want the best for it, they just want to go about it differently.
  • I really never really believed in the silent majority argument, but I do now.
  • As a liberal, of course, I’m not exactly comfortable with a Trump presidency, but I’m more comfortable with him leading the country than Ted Cruz. For eight years, my political views were represented in the branch of the presidency, “we” had our “turn”. But I do feel a bit bummed that neither the House or Senate has the majority power to represent my political leanings. No matter who’s in control of the other two branches, I’ve always preferred the other party to be in charge of the other branch, if anything, to keep the other “in check”. I know the Democrats controlled the Senate, House, at the start of Obama’s presidency, but he had those Blue Dog Democrats that kept him from going too far left.
  • After a stock market beating, you’ll often hear analysts stating the market is correcting itself. I wonder if that can be true for our country. I mean that in the sense that of how people vote and how government needs to be shaken up.
  • The last border marker of The Republic of Texas is still standing

  • Well, that was one heck of a night. And Britain thought they could top us with Brexit.
  • Trumps “Dewey Defeats Truman”?

  • For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required; and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
  • Only in America!
  • Like I said before, this will be a great test of how our Forefathers have set up that great balance of powers.
  • You heard it here first, Billy Bush will be the next White House Press Secretary.
  • I wonder how Bernie would have done?
  • It will be interesting to see how Paul Ryan, Lyndsey Graham, and Little Marco work with Trump.
  • There’s no such thing as conventional politics anymore, folks. Simply, amazing. He did it his way and no one other than him believed it could be done.
  • That first Trump State of the Union (which is actually called something like an address to congress since it’s not technically a State of the Union for a new president) sure will be interesting.
  • “This is a moment for people to understand that political involvement is a responsibility… You can opt out of voting, but not the effects”
  • If there’s a lesson here, it’s that a career in reality television can lead to places.
  • Did Baylor not release any information last night?
  • From the time it took me to stand in the voting line, vote, and walk out the building was 57-minutes. A lot of folks in line were commenting on how their precinct was moved or had to drive from one place to another to vote.
  • While standing in line, I noticed a first-time voter, and you could see her excitement and hopeful optimism as the line grew shorter and a proud sense of accomplished civil duty on her face as she left the polling place.
  • ‘I voted from space’: Lone American off planet casts ballot
    • The lone American off the planet has cast his vote from space, keeping with NASA’s motto of “Vote while you float.” A 1997 Texas law allows U.S. astronauts to vote from space. For NASA astronauts, home is Houston when they’re not circling the globe. A secure electronic ballot is forwarded to the astronauts by Mission Control in Houston and returned by email to the county clerk.
  • One of my most loyal readers lives in Toronto, but I finally got to meet him yesterday because he was in town for a business trip. He was kind enough to bring along his son, buy WifeGeeding’s and my lunch, and give us some Canadian maple syrup. He found BagOfNothing over a decade ago all because a Chicago newspaper referenced my little blog.
  • Speaking of Canadians – Canadian man goes diving for sea cucumbers, stumbles across US nuclear weapon missing since 1950
  • I always get a kick out of how NBC will turn the ice skating rink at Rockefeller Center into an electoral college map, but I’m not sure they did it this year.
  • Anything Howard Hughes captures my attention. Warren Beatty has written, directed, and stars in a new Howard Hughes movie. Lily Collins, Phil Collins’ daughter, is one of the leading stars, and there are some big names attached to the film such as Ed Harris, Alec Baldwin, Annette Bening (wonder how he got her), Matthew Broderick, Martin Sheen, Oliver Platt, Amy Madigan, and Candice Bergen. It arrives in theaters on November 23.
  • Sega Genesis returns to production — in BrazilThe venerable 16-bit video game console is returning to retailers’ shelves in Brazil, complete with an SD card and A/V support.
  • I’m only posting this story because it’s the first place I worked at out of college after leaving Abilene and it’s where we held our wedding reception – Cityplace Tower ownership gets $120M with plans to continue upgrades
  • I’m impressed with this holiday Coke bottle (wait for it)
