Ground Zero Photos

These photos were taken at Ground Zero, the World Trade Center site in New York, on September 13, 2001.

They were taken by someone named “Ed” who was allowed into the area by a member of the emergency response crew, at a time when all civilians — including most journalists — were forbidden to enter the area. As a result, these photos are just about the only close-ups ever taken of the World Trade Center site so soon after the 9/11 attacks.

Baby thrown from car, found under house and lives

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A little baby was thrown 15 feet out of a crashed car and survived. The 16-month-old was in the hospital on Wednesday, recovering from the hit and run crash.

A driver ran into the infant’s mother’s car in St. Petersburg, sending the baby flying out of the rear window. Moments later, a neighbor spotted the baby boy underneath a house.

“I was going to actually cut a hole in my floor with a saw to pull him straight out, because I was very concerned for the child,” said homeowner Joshua Pegues.

The boy was given CPR and taken to the hospital. He is expected to be okay.

Woman fatally bitten by snake in church

Malta.jpegLONDON, Ky. – A woman who was bitten by a snake at a church that neighbors say practices serpent handling died of her wounds hours later, a newspaper reported.

Linda Long, 48, was bitten Sunday at East London Holiness Church, where neighbors said the reptiles are handled as part of religious services, The Lexington Herald-Leader reported Tuesday.

But here is the part I found interesting . . .

Handling reptiles as part of religious services is illegal in Kentucky. Snake handling is a misdemeanor and punishable by a $50 to $100 fine.

Why have snakes as part of a religious service?

Snake handling is based on a passage in the Bible that says a sign of a true believer is the power to “take up serpents” without being harmed.
