Underground Fire Still Burns

In 1962, a little fire in Centralia (Pennsylvania) migrated into an exposed vein of anthracite coal under the town. The flames on the surface were successfully extinguished, but the coal continued to burn underground for many years, so that in 1984 the fire was completely out of control and the city had to be evacuated.

Nowadays, Centralia is an abandoned and ghostly place. The fire still burns beneath the town and there is enough coal to feed the fire for up to 250 years.

Tempting Picture of the Day

A friend of mine has a relative who is a missionary in Eastern Europe. He recently shared photographs and the story of a man he is caring for, who has an extremely bizarre skin condition. The man has keratin-like matter growing out of the skin on hands and feet, which started when he was young, and very slowly continues to spread and grow.

Videos from our Vietnam Trip

Students are just let out for recess/exercise time.

Before they can go out and play, they have to take part in some kind of exercise or dance.

Part of the My Tho island tour where we actually had to row back to our boat in the harbor.

This is me crosssing the street in My Tho. Traffic was actully really slow at the time.

Normal blogging begins tomorrow, although I might sneek some posts in today.

If you have any questions about our trip, just post the questions or email me at kgeeding at hotmail dot com.
