Failing Rio Grande High Student Allowed To Graduate
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A Rio Grande High School senior with powerful parents is scheduled to graduate Tuesday night. Some teachers, parents and students said they are upset because the Albuquerque Public School district ordered the school to change the student’s failing grade.
The student failed his senior English class. It is a required course students must pass in order to walk across the stage and get their diplomas at The Pit, Action 7 News reported.
Sources told Action 7 News the senior’s mother is Bernalillo County Commissioner Teresa Cordova. His father is former vice president of the APS school board, Miguel Acosta.
