The hidden oil patterns on bowling lanes

I used to work with a semi-pro bowler and once told him that my buddy (the guy who I named my daughter after) and I once won the intramural bowling championship in college. I mentioned my friend was left-handed and he told me that wasn’t fair and then ranted how left-handed bowlers have an unfair advantage because their side of the lane isn’t used as much and the oil pattern is more consistent. Well, this video addresses the issue.

Bag of Randomness for Thursday, July 13, 2017

  • I’ve posted the above picture before but I never knew there was a story attached to it. While looking for something yesterday I stumbled upon a document in my father’s files which provides a bit of context. That document is posted at the bottom of this post.
  • My definition of “old” changes the older I get.
  • Someone recently bought a 2000 Jeep Cherokee XL with just 4,400 miles in pristine condition from an old woman who has kept it covered in her garage.
  • Humor from I heard yesterday:
    • Coma-toes – What happens when your feet fall asleep.
    • Boob-sweat should be re-termed as humid-i-titties.
  • The book I’m reading about presidential relationships references Billy Graham from time to time. In 1968, he provided the opening prayer at the Democratic convention in Chicago and was in the same room with Richard Nixon when he decided to choose Spiro Agnew as his running mate. Nixon even had Graham deliver a secret message to LBJ during the election about Vietnam.
  • An article about Tesla car repairs
    • …. 90% of the car’s issues can be identified and diagnosed remotely thanks to its connectivity. That means it can service vehicles four times faster than conventional service departments, according to Tesla, using significantly less space. The off-site services delivered by vans will also reduce the volume at repair centers.
  • The voice behind Kermit the Frog since 1990 has been recast by Disney. In a blog post, he wrote he hoped he hadn’t disappointed fans and feels he has failed in his hero and mentor, Jim Henson. I’m sure he’s financially stable, but losing an iconic dream job like that has to stink.
  • This reminds me of an important part of the last Superman movie  – Scientists have inserted a GIF into the DNA of living bacteria, bringing us one step closer to one day embedding information in our own skin.
  • ‘World’s first robot lawyer’ now available in all 50 states
  • U2 is in Germany and performed in the rain. Larry and his drums were covered on the island and a funky umbrella on stage.
