CKE Restaurants sues Jack in the Box for commercials it says mislead customers into thinking ‘Angus’ beef is ‘anus’ beef

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) — CKE Restaurants Inc., parent of the Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s fast-food chains, sued rival Jack In the Box Inc. Friday over new television commercials it says mislead customers into confusing CKE’s Angus hamburgers with meat from a cow’s anus.

The ads promoting Jack in the Box’s  new line of sirloin burgers take aim at Angus beef, which CKE , McDonald’s Corp.  and Burger King Holdings Inc.  use in their fanciest burgers.

In one of the ads at issue, Jack in the Box’s bubble-headed mascot, Jack, points to a diagram of meat cuts showing that sirloin comes from a cow’s mid-section. A colleague asks Jack to point to the “Angus area” of the cow, and draws a circle in the air. Jack responds: “I’d rather not.”

In another spot, a group of fictional Jack in the Box employees laugh uncontrollably when a co-worker says the word “Angus” during a presentation about its competitor’s burgers.

That’s a lot of shoes

Saks Fifth Avenue says its new shoe department is so big that it’s getting its own ZIP code.

The Manhattan store is revamping its shoe department, and when it moves from the fourth floor to an 8,500-square-foot space on the eighth floor in August, customers will be able to send mail to 10022-SHOE.

“We believe it’s such a big move for us it deserves its own ZIP code,” Saks spokeswoman Lesley Langsam Kennedy said Thursday. “We wanted to make it a destination.”

The retailer worked with the U.S. Postal Service on the new ZIP code — but only the last four characters, which aren’t necessary when mailing something, are specialized. The rest of the neighborhood shares 10022.
