  • Off hand, you wouldn’t think Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails would make for good collaboration with Ken Burns, but his work on ‘The Vietnam War’ soundtrack has been fantastic.
  • Gallup News – Perceived Need for Third Major Party Remains High in U.S.
    • Nearly twice as many Americans today think a third major party is needed in the U.S. as say the existing parties do an adequate job of representing the American people. The 61% who contend that a third party is needed is technically the highest Gallup has recorded, although similar to the 57% to 60% holding this view since 2013. Barely a third, 34%, think the Republican and Democratic parties suffice.
  • I laughed at a tweet yesterday which had a bunch of photos of NFL players kneeling with a caption stating how it took a while, but everyone is now Tebowing.
  • Aaron Rodgers with a little kneeling humor.
  • Yesterday, U2 released the official video of “You’re The Best About Me”. While I enjoyed it, I wasn’t much impressed. It’s just the four of them doing a bit of this and that in NYC. And to be straightforward, even if they were using an artistic form of expression, I wasn’t comfortable with them performing with the NYC skyline behind them with the World Trade Center Tribute in Light behind them.
  • About once a year I find an article which reminds me of ‘The Simpsons’ episode in which Homer discovers a crayon has been stuck up his nose since childhood, has it removed which increases his intelligence, but later shoves it back in so he can return to his normal self.
    • Here’s the articleA toy traffic cone has been found in the lung of a man 40 years after he inhaled it. It was originally thought that the unnamed 47-year-old man from Preston might have cancer.
  • Houston PD throwing a lot of social media shade at our local baseball club.
  • In other Houston sports news, their starting quarterback did a nice thing – Deshaun Watson gives paycheck to Harvey victims
    • Three cafeteria workers at NRG Stadium received an unexpected gift from quarterback Deshaun Watson this week. Watson decided he wanted to give his first NFL paycheck to the ladies who had lost cars and homes during Hurricane Harvey.
  • Network, newspaper staffers hit by logistical headaches as they descend on Puerto Rico
    • Reporting from Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria has been one of the toughest assignments for journalists, as the island is grappling with damaged infrastructure, limited commercial flights and spotty electricity and cell service. And yet, nearly every major American English and Spanish-language broadcast, cable network and national newspaper have correspondents on the ground.

    • Equifax says it will allow customers to lock and unlock access to their credit files for free — and for life.
    • The costs to freeze and lift the freeze on your credit vary based on where you live, but commonly ranges from $2 to $10 per agency.
  • So very hypnotic, I watched this over and over for a good two minutes.

  • It’s that time of the year where I can’t tell if I’m under the weather because of allergies or some kind of bug.
  • I’ve noticed a new fashion trend of men wearing a certain type of sneakers with suits. I’m not talking about young dudes either, I’ve seen Troy Aikman, Howie Long, and one of the reporters on ‘Real Sports’ do it.
  • While watching CBS’s ‘Young Sheldon’ I was in awe of the actress who plays young Sheldon’s mother. In ‘The Big Bang Theory’, the role is played by Laurie Metcalf, and I thought the actress who plays young Sheldon’s mother looked very much like her and had her speech and mannerisms down pat. Well, it turns out that actress is played by Laurie Metcalf’s daughter, Zoe Perry.

  • As soon as this goes live for all users, including the president, the Doomsday Clock is to jump at least a few hours ahead. – Twitter just doubled the character limit for tweets to 280
  • When I was either a junior or senior in high school my father talked to me about the importance of establishing good credit and how he wanted me to get a credit card in my name but for him to monitor and manage. Part of that discussion was the credit bureaus which lead to many questions from me. For instance, I couldn’t understand how three non-government agencies would essentially be in charge of my identity and curious of how they were held in check. In a lot of ways, I’m still confused. I also wanted to know how does someone create such an entity in the first place and is able to obtain all that sensitive information and why banks and companies would be willing to share that information. Of course, I can now somewhat easily find an answer to those questions, but I’m just scattershooting right now. All of this comes to mind with the latest Equifax news of their CEO retiring three weeks after announcing a security breach.
  • My first credit card was with Bank of America. It arrived in the mail with a mistake, it had my middle initial as an “M” instead of a “W”. I called asking them to just flip the “M” upside down to make it a “W” and send me a new one, that someone doing data entry made a simple mistake. They told me in order to do that, I would have to send in a copy of my Social Security card and a current drivers license. I wasn’t comfortable with that and simply asked them to review the application I sent in, that it was their mistake and not mine, so I shouldn’t have to make the effort to send copies of those sensitive documents in the mail. They didn’t budge so I immediately closed my account and never did business with them again. However, I still get junk mail in which the middle initial is an “M” so I know who sold my info way back when.

  • Tammy Dombeck is suing CBS11 for age discrimination. It seems odd how the station keeps choosing young blondes for their traffic reports.
