Red River Rivalry Ridiculousness

An Oklahoma City man has been charged with aggravated assault and battery, accused of causing extensive damage to another man’s scrotum just because he wore a University of Texas shirt into a local bar.

What happened

Thomas said Beckett, whom he had never met, called him “everything under the sun” for wearing a Longhorns T-shirt into the bar.

He said he and his friend sat at a table in the corner and tried to ignore the other man, but other man — who apparently is a University of Oklahoma fan — kept screaming at him.

Thomas said he decided he’d had enough after about 20 minutes of Beckett’s abuse so he went to the bar to pay his tab. When he turned around, he said Beckett grabbed his crotch and refused to let go.

Thomas hit the other man several times before several bar patrons intervened, but Thomas said Beckett didn’t let go until Thomas heard his scrotum tear and blood ran down his leg.

Thomas, who grew up a Texas fan, said it took more than 60 stitches to close his wound.

Pastors Battle It Out Saturday at Speedway

The odds-on favorites are the Methodists. But even with eight of the drivers representing Methodist churches, you’ll find the Third Annual Clash of the Clergy is anybody’s race to win.

With the field expanded to around 24 drivers this year, the competition gets stiffer. It is a testament to the success of the dash to the checkered flag and the cause the event supports.

Twenty four churches are supporting the event this year – up from the field of about 12 core churches that have participated all three years from the immediate East Lincoln area. Drivers this year will also come from Lincolnton and Huntersville. Proceeds go to the East Lincoln Christian Ministry.

“In the two previous events we raised $10,000 for East Lincoln Christian Ministry,” said organizer Terry Brotherton.

On Saturday night (Aug. 25) East Lincoln Speedway will have a field of drivers collectively participating on a “wing and a prayer” as they take on the dirt and the dust of the 3/8 mile dirt track – many for their first attempt at race car driving. Unaccustomed to the speed and thrill of the track, these pastors or their representatives look forward to the “friendly competition.”
