Retirement Living TV

I didn’t know there was such a channel.

In accordance with CBS policy at the time, Walter Cronkite retired from the “CBS Evening News” in 1981 at age 65.

“Old anchormen, you see, don’t fade away; they just keep coming back for more,” he said during his sign-off.

Now, proving his point 26 years later, Mr. Cronkite is expected to sign with an aptly named cable network, Retirement Living TV.

The start-up channel is for people 55 and older, with shows like “Bargain Retirement Places” and “Healthline.” It has attracted other television veterans, including John Palmer, formerly of NBC News; Mary Alice Williams, a CNN veteran; and Florence Henderson of “The Brady Bunch” fame.

The network’s vice president for programming and production, Elliot Jacobson, said Retirement Living TV was in “advanced talks” with Mr. Cronkite, who is expected to contribute a weekly segment.

Mr. Cronkite would be the highest-profile hire for the channel, which celebrated its first anniversary last week and is fully funded by a foundation owned by the Erickson Retirement Communities, which manages retirement homes. Mr. Jacobson said the network’s mission “is to change the perception of aging in this country and change the quality of the aging process.”

The school with 20 sets of twins

Their teachers must sometimes wonder if they’re seeing double. There are 20 sets of twins on the roll at one Cheshire school, including four pairs who joined this month.

Staff at the Grange School in Hartford, near Northwich, say the situation makes taking the register a little bit harder.

But teachers have built up so much experience in tackling the challenge of teaching identical siblings that the school now specialises in looking after them.
