Bono, The Edge surprise audience at charity concert

U2 stars Bono and The Edge showed up unannounced and played as a warmup act at a charity concert in London.

The show delighted the 250 people who attended the fundraiser Friday night for Mencap, a charity that campaigns for equal rights for children and adults with learning disabilities.

“Don’t tell Larry (Mullen) and Adam (Clayton) we’ve done this,” Bono joked about his other two band mates from the small stage.

Bono and The Edge — performing as a warmup act for Biffy Clyro, a Scottish rock group — played four of their songs: “Stay,” “Desire,” “Angel Of Harlem” and “Wave Of Sorrow.”

Sorry Baylor hopefuls: Singletary won’t be coaching Baylor

Mike Singletary will remain the 49ers’ assistant head coach and linebackers coach after withdrawing from consideration for the head-coaching vacancy at his alma mater, Baylor University.

Singletary said Thursday that a couple of sticking points surfaced during his talks this week with Athletic Director Ian McCaw and, rather than drag out the process, he decided to “let it go.”

Singletary said there were “philosophical differences” that would have prevented him from taking the job.

He said he had told McCaw that he would not leave his 49ers job before the end of this season.

“I was going to finish what I started. I wasn’t going to compromise on that,” Singletary said.
