Usher – Singing in the Rain

My late father was born in 1923 and had me late in life; I was born in 1975.  Because of this I was blessed to be exposed to a lot of things a lot of my friends tended to shy away from.  A few of those things happens to be classic movies and big band music, stuff that I still appreciate today; but that doesn’t mean that I still didn’t want to break away and listen to a bunch of pop, rock, and rap music in my teens.  Every now and then we would find something in common, like a Sting, Whitney Houston, or U2 song.

This weekend I saw a special on CBS titled Movies Rock.  I think if I watched this show with my father he would of hated most of it, but I’m pretty darn sure there was one performance we both would have bonded over.

Over the years I’ve grown fond of Usher Raymond who happened to be on this special.  He also has an appreciation for classic movies, and he paid tribute to Gene Kelly’s ‘Singing in the Rain’ – and he did is oh so very well.  You can watch the clip below, and below that clip is the original.  Pay special attention to the similarity to costume, set,  and choreography.  It was also nice to see him put his own little twist on this performance.  This was one of the greatest tributes I think I’ve ever seen.  Good stuff, yo.

The Jews Who Wrote Christmas Songs

Every year the American Society of Composers and Publishers publishes a list of the 25 Most Popular Holiday Songs. The old favorites–“The Christmas Song,” “White Christmas,” etc.–are always on the list, but songs enter or leave the list based on the popularity of recent covers of the song.

Among the 25 songs picked this year, more than half–13 to 14–were composed, co-written or performed by verifiably Jewish artists. Here’s a rundown on the songs with Jewish connections.

The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire) Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Do They Know It’s Christmas? (Feed the World) Santa Baby
Holly Jolly Christmas Santa Claus is Coming to Town
I’ll Be Home for Christmas Silver Bells
It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year Sleigh Ride
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! There’s No Place Like Home for the Holidays
Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree White Christmas

Grandma Uses Jesus To Stop A Robber

7464669_bg1.jpgA 92-year old grandmother from Dyersburg talked a would-be robber out of taking her money, by praying with him.

Pauline Jacobi just finished putting her groceries in her car, when a man got into her passenger seat.

That man told Jacobi he had a gun, and he would shoot her if she didn’t give him all her money.

The spunky 92-year old said no, and then she started talking with the would-be robber.

“I said Jesus is in this car and he goes with me everywhere I go. He just looked around and the tears just began coming down his eyes,” Jacobi said.

Jacobi talked with the man for several more minutes. Then he said he was going to go home and pray.

The grandmother then willing gave him all the money she had on her, which was $10.

A Legend in the Making

Dallas fans are so very luck to have this guy as our QB.  It really is a pleasure watching him play, and we better enjoy it while we can.

And I got this email probably just two minutes after the game:

That’s our first division title since 1998.

But it’s all for not if we can’t win a playoff game.  But so far this journey has been oh so fun.
