Another Roy Williams Changing Jerseys Story

I think the nicest gestures of the week belong to Dallas safety Roy Williams and the Redskins. Washington listed the late Sean Taylor as their starting safety for Saturday’s playoff game. On the other hand, Williams, who was named to the Pro Bowl as a replacement for Taylor, said he will have something special for the Taylor family in Honolulu, and this is what it is: He’ll switch from his uniform number, 31, and wear Taylor’s number, 21, for the game. A brilliant idea and nice tribute to the memory of a man who’s been an inspiration to players and people in and out of the Washington organization.

Roy Williams was in a sticky situation anyways.  First off, his play this year isn’t deserving of a Pro-Bowl slot, even as a reserve.  Second, replacing a deceased playing while playing for the rival team is a pretty sticky situation no matter how you look at it.  I think he did the right thing.

Hidden Room, Hidden Danger

14489212_240×180.jpgImagine finding a “secret room” in your house.

Jason and Kerri Brown of Greenville found a secret room in their home behind a bookcase, and what was inside was a nightmare beyond their wildest dreams.

“This can’t be happening. This can’t be true. It terrified me,” Kerri Brown told News 4’s Tim Waller.

The secret room in the old mill home on Whitten Street in Greenville’s Dunean section contained a handwritten letter from the previous owner titled, “You Found It!”

“Hello. If you’re reading this, then you found the secret room. I owned this house for a short while and it was discovered to have a serious mold problem. One that actually made my children very sick to the point that we had to move out,” Kerri Brown read from the letter.

According to the note, there was so much mold, it made the last family who lived there sick, and they were forced to move out.

The Browns later learned the home contained the worst types of mold including Stachybotrys, the so-called Toxic Black Mold.

Student’s Toy Ploy Brings Smile to Candidates’ Faces

CLINTON, Iowa — It’s not at all unusual for folks in this town to meet at least one of the presidential candidates. Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, John McCain, Chris Dodd et al. have campaigned amid Clinton’s 27,000 residents in recent months.

What’s unusual — okay, a little odd — is for someone to have met almost all the candidates and taken photos of each one smiling with his Mr. Potato Head. That’s right. Mr. Potato Head.

“The candidates have been in Iowa forever. Why not have fun with the whole process?”

The story of the young man and his spudhead began in 2004, when Green inherited the toy from his dying grandfather. Grandpa Robert had kept the faux spud on his bedroom shelf, Green says, and treated it like nothing more than a decoration. Green, however, wanted to show the toy around. So wherever he went — and Green’s traveled quite a bit — so went the spudhead. To the Statue of Liberty, Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, the Marine Corps War Memorial.

His parents and younger sister have a three-word explanation for this.

“That’s just Andy,” says his mom, Jenny Green, a secretary at Clinton Community College.

Naturally, when the candidates started holding events near the University of Northern Iowa, where Green is a sophomore, he jumped on the opportunity.
