The man who unboiled an egg

The article is a bit long, but here’s the gist:

when an egg is cooked, the protein molecules unroll themselves, link up and enclose the water molecules. In order to ‘uncook’ the egg, you need to detach the protein molecules from each other. By adding a product like sodium borohydride, the egg becomes liquid within three hours. For those who want to try it at home, vitamin C also does the trick.

Middle school issues ban on intentional flatulence

CAMDEN (Feb 1): The Merriam Webster Dictionary definition for flatulence is brief: “flatus expelled through the anus.” And while it’s a natural bodily function, it seems some Camden-Rockport Middle School eighth-grade boys are taking it to new heights and making a game of seeing who can expel the loudest and grossest flatus. According to this week’s Fire Cracker school newsletter though, the joke’s on the boys as the penalty for “intentional farting” is now a detention.

“Strange, but true, thanks to a bunch of 8th grade boys, intentional farting has been banned from CRMS,” the newsletter said. “It started out as a funny joke and eventually turned into a game. This is the first rule at CRMS that prevents the use of natural bodily functions. The penalty for intentional farting is a detention, so keep it to yourself!”

According to a group of seventh-grade students milling around downtown following Friday’s storm-related early release, the eighth-graders’ escapades are well known in the school.

John McCain’s Citizenship Status & Eligibility for the Presidency Called into Question

Senator John McCain (R-AZ) was born August 29, 1936 in the Panama Canal Zone on a U.S. military base to two United States citizens. Because of the location of his birth, McCain’s eligibility for the presidency is now in question. The U.S. Constitution states that “No person except a natural born citizen shall be eligible to the office of President.” While no one is disputing that McCain is a citizen of the United States, the issue of whether he can be considered a “natural born citizen” is being called into question. A natural born citizen “is where only the natural act of one being born in a place determines the status of ones citizenship with no additional stipulations necessary to influence that status.”Although McCain was born on a U.S. military base, it is now being argued that he is not a natural born citizen, but rather, should be considered a “naturalized” citizen. Panama, is not a U.S. territory – it is a sovereign nation.

To date, no law or court ruling has ever actually established the official or precise definition of what is a “natural born citizen”. However, it is typically agreed that a natural born citizen is one who is born in any of the 50 U.S. states or the District of Columbia.
