RIP – The Joshua Tree

The pictures that follow are of the famous tree featured on the sleeve of U2’s Joshua Tree album. I first visited the Tree in May 1999, and returned several times once I moved to California. In October 2000 it was reported in the U2 fan community that the Tree had fallen down. I took a trip into the desert soon afterward, and sadly the Tree has indeed fallen over.

Asthma/Allergy Doctor Visit

  • Two weeks ago I had my first ever asthma attack which resulted in today’s doctors visit.  I am now battling a case of bronchitis and that skewed the results of some of my breathing tests.
  • The waiting room had a section that was for adults only (insert joke here); however, a jr high kid was sitting in the area.  Either he’s a rebel or he thinks highly of himself.
  • I was very impressed with the doctor as he was very thorough and actually personable.  He even asked me if I had any hobbies, and I said blogging.  My answer intrigued him as he asked what exactly is blogging and why would anyone ever visit my website.  I told him a little bit about BON and answered a few more questions about content and traffic.  He added, “That many people find your life intriguing?”  That made me laugh.  He asked if this this visit was going to make the blog, and I mentioned that it would because I took a picture of his brand new exam room that looks straight out of the 60’s.

Vanity Fair’s Hitchcock Classics Photo Spreads

The latest issue of Vanity Fair includes a set of photo spreads featuring today’s Hollywood actors recreating classic Hitchcock scenes in an article titled The 2008 Hollywood Portfolio: Hitchcock Classics. These photos are as good as anything Annie Leibovitz has photographed, which is amazing to say, and are quite a cool set to browse through. Everyone from Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow to Naomi Watts to Emile Hirsch and James McAvoy to Scarlett Johansson and Javier Bardem are featured in this set. Whether you love Hitchcock or whether you love A-list actors, you need to check these out. It’s rare that we feature anything like this, but these are just too cool to pass up.
