  • I’m picky about opening envelopes, I never rip them open and always use a letter opener. I still use the same two letter openers given to me in college so they are about twenty years old. One looks like a knife and is engraved and was given to me as a gift since I served as an usher in a wedding. The second was given to me by my university’s school of business and it says “Taking Care of Bidness”.
  • I tend to glance over news headlines instead of actually reading them, so I thought this was another story about the adult actress, the president, and immigration – Tropical Storm Daniel forms far off Mexico’s Pacific coast
  • Sam Elliot is in an interesting new movie:
    • Sam Elliott (TOMBSTONE, ROAD HOUSE) stars as a legendary World War II veteran who many years ago assassinated Adolf Hitler – an incredible secret that he’s frustratingly unable to share with the world. One day, just as he’s coming to terms with rounding out his life, Calvin gets a visit from the FBI and The Royal Canadian Mounted Police. They need him to take out Bigfoot.

  • Air Force veteran MJ Hegar is running as a Democrat in the 31st Congressional District in Texas. Her campaign created an impressive campaign video and is getting a lot of buzz. Even if you disagree with her political stance, I think you’ll still agree it was well produced and put together.
  • Just outside Austin, you can watch JAWS as the sun sets while floating in a comfortable inner tube on a lake.
    • This year’s inner tubes are specially designed for Jaws On The Water, with headrests and cup holders to ensure maximum comfort (though, as chum for unseen marine beasts, you’ll never be THAT comfortable). You’ll even get to take them home, should you survive.
  • Last week a billboard in West Texas encouraging liberals to leave Texas made the news. A more positive one was spotted in Amarillo recently.
  • Saudi Moves Forward With Plan to Turn Qatar Into Island
    • Saudi Arabia is moving forward with a plan to dig a canal that would physically enshrine its yearlong rift with Qatar by turning the emirate from a peninsula bordering the kingdom into an island, Saudi media reported on Tuesday.
    • This gives me an idea. Maybe the U.S. should do something like this, widen the Rio Grande by about ten miles and divert the water to become a physical border all the way to the Pacific Ocean making it the world’s largest canal.

Checking out the moon

On a whim, Wylie Overstreet set up his telescope outside his apartment. He wanted to look at the moon. He had no idea he would, in a matter of hours, inspire awe in hundreds of strangers on the streets of Los Angeles.

Overstreet and Gorosh were so taken by strangers’ reactions to the moon through their telescope that the friends began to set it up in different locations across the city, filming as they went.
