Papa John’s Offers 23-Cent Pizza After LeBron Shirt

CLEVELAND — A pizza chain that stirred up controversy for sponsoring a LeBron James T-shirt is trying to make it up to Cleveland fans.

Officials said it all started when a Washington, D.C.-area Papa John’s gave away shirts with LeBron’s No. 23, and “CRYBABY” written on them for Friday night’s game. “The decision to do this was made by a local Washington, D.C., Papa John’s operator without approval of Papa John’s corporate. Nonetheless, we believe this was in poor taste and sincerely apologize to Cavalier fans and LeBron James,” said Chris Sternberg, senior vice president of corporate communications.On Thursday, Cleveland Papa John’s stores will offer customers a large one-topping carry-out pizza for only 23 cents. Papa John’s will also donate $10,000 this week to the Cavaliers Youth Fund.”We wish the Cavs and LeBron the best of luck throughout the playoffs,” Sternberg said.There are more than 40 Papa John’s restaurants throughout the Cleveland area.
