Girl’s twin found inside her stomach

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Doctors say a 9-year-old girl who went to hospital in central Greece suffering from stomach pains was carrying her embryonic twin.

Doctors at Larissa General Hospital who examined the girl found a growth, which was surgically removed.

Hospital director Iakovos Brouskelis said Thursday “they could see on the right side that her belly was swollen, but they couldn’t suspect that this tumor would hide an embryo.”

The embryo was six centimeters (more than two inches) long.

Hospital pediatrics chief Andreas Markou says the foetus had a head, hair and eyes, but lacked a brain.

Hospital officials say the girl’s family doesn’t want to be identified.
