  • The kids both had a great day at school. And yes, they are both wearing the same style of shoe.
  • My kids are very lucky to have WifeGeeding’s sister as their aunt. She always calls the kids on the first day of school to see how their went. WifeGeeding’s mother doesn’t get a chance to call as the kids are anxious to call her as soon as they get home. It’s nice to hear them talk to WifeGeeding’s parents, it gives me a chance to imagine what it would have been like for my kids to have talked to my parents.
  • I usually don’t pick up the kids from school but I did so yesterday and let DogGeedingII ride along. BoyGeeding’s teacher from last year was working the carline and opened the back door but didn’t notice the dog right away, when she glanced back in she was so surprised she jumped and screamed and we all had a good laugh. DogGeedingII on the other hand had no idea what was going on.
  • I eat Vietnamese food only once a year, on my mother’s birthday. Each year I call in the same to-go order. They never give me the total, ask for my name or phone number, and never confirm the order, but always recognize me when I walk in to pick it up.
  • The TICKET had what I thought was a no-brainer hypothetical – would you rather be able to run 100 mph or fly at no faster than 10 mph. I didn’t even have to think twice about it, fly. Even though that’s a slow speed, it would be great to pick up a few items at the local grocery store and not have to worry about parking or be at events with a bird’s-eye view.
  • Sometimes when I start to overthink something I’m reminded of something a great naval aviator once said, “You don’t have time to think up there. If you think, you’re dead.”
  • Interesting aviation tidbit – The first commercial passenger airliner that was shot down by hostile forces was refurbished and returned to service; however, that plane became the third commercial passenger airliner to be shot down by hostile forces. The aircraft was operated by a Chinese airline, shot down both times by the Japanese, and both times piloted by an American.

  • Today BagOfNothing.com becomes a teenager. Yup, I started this blog thirteen years ago today. In five more years I’ll have to register it with the Selective Service.
  • DaughterGeeding got braces yesterday. She’s still a child, but it’s a sign of her aging, which makes me a bit melancholy.
  • Today is the first day of school. BoyGeeding will be a first grader and DaughterGeeding a third grader. There’s been an unusual amount of rain the last couple of days, so I have a feeling WifeGeeding is going to have them wear their “old” shoes for the first day of school.
  • Today is my mother’s birthday, she would have turned 70. For a while, to honor her, I used to make a simple post asking my readers to honor my mother by reading, something she loved to do. Then it sorta hit me, by not making a full post, I’m keeping my readers from reading.
  • I guess it’s unprecedented and hard to imagine such a thing could happen, but all of West Virginia’s Supreme Court justices were impeached.
  • New Berlin Wall section found in Germany
    • Several locals on a walking tour came upon a 20-meter (66-foot) section of crumbling wall, covered in graffiti, in June. The wall had been covered by overgrown bushes, which is how it had escaped discovery for so long.
  • I thought all of them had a recent makeover – McDonald’s plans $6 billion makeover of its restaurants
  • Of all the things Omarosa has done, the one thing which cracked me up the most happened last year, when she signed her name as  “The Honorable Omarosa Manigault”.
  • Gregory Peck’s grandson, Ethan Peck, was just cast as the new Spock on ‘Star Trek: Discovery’. May the Force be with him.

  • I’d like to propose a Win/Win/Lose/Lose trade with Houston. We’ll trade you Robert Jeffress for Joel Osteen.
  • I don’t know what happens with Kim Wexler but I love how she stands up for her man.
  • The Atlantic – Hollywood Doesn’t Make Movies Like The Fugitive Anymore  – The Harrison Ford–starring thriller represents the best of a genre that has faded: the character-driven action movie for adults.
    • I wonder if my college roommate remembers how much I watched this in college. We didn’t haven’t the internet or even cable, and the rabbit ears could only bring in three or four channels. I’d usually popped this movie in the VCR, put the sleep timer on the television, and eventually doze off.
  • Sometimes when stress gets the best of me and I just want to quit, I’ll quote a certain fictional naval aviator, “I’m holding on too tight, I’ve lost the edge. I’m sorry, sir.”
    • Those may be the very last words of this blog when I decide to hang it up.

    • The Texans said Monday that they’re donating the turf they played on at NRG Stadium last season to C.E. King High School after its field was destroyed in flooding from Harvey, which hit the area last August.
  • ‘In God We Trust’ now must be displayed in all Florida schools, school buildings
    • Gov. Scott signed a bill in March that requires all schools to display signs with the state motto in “a conspicuous place.” The measure is part of a sweeping education bill signed into law in March by Gov. Rick Scott, which includes the nation’s first ever private school voucher program for bullied students.
