Rick Warren says domestic violence is no excuse for divorce

LAKE FOREST, Calif. (ABP) — Rick Warren, the Southern Baptist megachurch pastor chosen to offer the invocation at President-elect Barack Obama’s Jan. 20 inauguration, says the Bible does not permit a woman to divorce a spouse who is abusing her.

In audio clips on his Saddleback Church website, the Purpose Driven Life author says the Bible condones divorce for only two reasons — adultery and abandonment.

“I wish there were a third in Scripture, having been involved as a pastor with situations of abuse,” Warren said. “There is something in me that wishes there were a Bible verse that says, ‘If they abuse you in this-and-such kind of way, then you have a right to leave them.'”

Warren said his church’s counseling ministry advises separation and counseling instead of divorce in abusive marriages, because it’s the only path toward healing.

Scientology, Travolta, Medicine, and Life After Death

After the death of Jett Travolta, son of John Travolta and Kelly Preston, Beliefnet interviewed Tommy Davis, a representative of the Church of Scientology International. He answered questions about Scientology’s beliefs on autism, medical care, and death. Davis spoke only for the church, not for the family.

Here’s the full interview from Belief.net, but below is a snippet about life after death:

Well, in Scientology, we believe that you yourself are an immortal spiritual being that has lived before and will live again. As such, you’ve lived many lifetimes and, potentially, you have many lifetimes ahead of you. So the spirit, which is you, is immortal. You are not your body.

As popular and trendy as Scientology is, I’m surprised there aren’t more followers.

Socially Responsible Reasons to Punch Someone in the Face

We’re not mean people, honestly.

This blog is not written with malice or scorn, but with a sincere desire to witness the upward progression of the human race. And some people are ruining it for everybody.

People who wear sunglasses inside.
Savages who pee on the seat.
This kind of conduct only perpetuates the acceptance of degenerate behavior.

On this space log, you will find examples of socially responsible reasons to punch someone in the face. And remember, we do it for the kids.

Just a fare bit of warning, some of the material is bit more than PG-13.

But here’s a preview, the Movie-Seat Kicker:

There is no contesting that the incessant back-pounding, obnoxiously distracting behavior of “The Movie-Seat Kicker” needs to be reprimanded. However, situational factors complicate delivery. First, there’s the movie theater factor. Yes, you are being interrupted by the jerk store behind you, but to breakout into a fiery rage in the middle of the theater is to lower yourself to the culprit’s level and risk having all other movie goers looking to then punch you in the face. Second is the fact that very often, movie-seat kickers are children, which beckons the question, what kind of parent brings a four-year old to a two hour documentary about Cuba? And who deserves the punishment?

In the end, only you can decide how to approach the problem. But, if you’re struggling to find a quiet, yet efficient means of discipline, the right-after-the-credits-start-rolling-dropkick is highly recommended.
