Bag of Randomness

  • The advantage of being able to wear sandles to work is that there aren’t too many socks to wash at the end of the week.
  • The disadvantage is my feet sometimes get cold.
  • When I watch House, I tend to think that Dr Cuddy would be the kind of person that would always have bad breath.
  • I new of the missing airliner is devastating, but I couldn’t help but think of Lost as I read the story.
  • WifeGeeding was actually surprised I knew what a pencil skit was.
  • When it comes to DFW sports radio, it appears The Ticket runs the table.
  • During a commerical break on the drive home, I switched to Galloway for a few minutes . . . he’s definitely not my cup of tea.
  • Democrats coming to Texas
  • I’m ready for summer to be over. That means football season.
  • I always thought the name General Motors was a little prosaic.
  • I keep seeing the infomercial for the Worx weedeater.  Tempting, especially since the price is right under $100.  But I’m actually pretty happy with my Black and Decker.
  • I just learned the “Bull in the Ring” football drill can no longer be a part of practice  for schools or little league – that was a fun drill.
  • Another thing that is now outlawed that I always enjoyed playing was lawn darts.  I would love to get me a set, but they are no longer sold in the U.S.
  • The route I’ve been taking home from work, the “shortcut” that I found, isn’t as smooth as it use to be because of construction.
  • Trying to decide between Conan and Letterman is going to be a dilemma for me.  I’m just a loyal Letterman guy, but want to see what Conan has to offer.
  • When Conan walked on stage last night, you can tell he was just soaking in the moment.
  • I did like that opening sketch of running across America.
  • But I was getting dizzy during the monologue, Conan just wouldn’t stay still.  Probably nerves,  because I don’t recall him moving so much during the monologue on his old show.
  • Right now I’m about a third of the way through his first Tonight Show, and I’m giving it a B-.  I know he can, and will do better.
  • I like that Andy is back on the show, and the set looks sharp.  That rounded curtain is a nice touch.
  • So far I’ve watched the last Carson, the first and last Leno, the last of Letterman and Conan on Late Night, and the first Letterman on the Late Show.  I also watch the first Chevy Chase and Pat Sajak show and The Magic Hour.   Oh, and the first Kimmel and Fallon.
  • Did you know that Sajak is 62 years old?  Vanna is ten years younger.

Bird uses body as dam to stop drainpipe soaking chicks

herobridscreenshotbonv001

A bird used her body as a dam to stop overflowing drainpipe water from soaking her chicks.

The Mistle Thrush had built her nest on top of a downpipe, blocking the water’s passage and causing the gutter to flood.

But desperate to protect her young, she puffed herself up to twice her size and sat in the drainpipe to stop the tide of rain water swamping the nest.

She was so occupied with her task that her mate was left to feed her and their young.

The images were captured by amateur wildlife photographer Dennis Bright at a house in Fareham, Hampshire.
