Lawsuit filed to keep bells ringing at church

PHOENIX — Attorneys representing three churches are suing the City of Phoenix claiming that a noise ordinance prohibiting the ringing of their bells is unconstitutional.

Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund filed the lawsuit in federal Court Wednesday, according to the ADF website.

St. Mark Roman Catholic Parish, First Christian Church and Christ the King Church are challenging the noise ordinance because attorneys say it offers an exemption for ice cream trucks but not for churches.

Bag of Randomness

  • I heard that Arlington ISD is going to give excused absences for students that miss school because of the president’s speech.
  • Out of all the students that will stay at home because of the president’s speech, how many of them do you think will be white?
  • I wonder if parents held their kids back from school when Reagan and G.H.W. Bush spoke to students?  I’m not saying that liberals didn’t complain back then, I’m just wondering if parents actually held their kids back because the president was speaking.
  • One of the problems parents have with the speech is the optional supplemental material that the Department of Education made available.  One of the questions asked something to the effect of what can they do to help the president.  While watching ABC News last night, they showed a clip of G.H.W. Bush asking students to write him a letter on ways they can help him achieve “our goals.”
  • Heck, this lady even tears up at the idea of Obama speaking to her kids:

  • WifeGeeding and I took advantage of the free Chick-Fil-A sandwich promotion yesterday.  You wear a team t-shirt, you can walk in and get a sandwich.  We played it smart by avoiding the lunch crowed and just going for dinner.
  • It would be funny for a professional athlete to walk in wearing his or her jersey and getting a free sandwhich.  I can totally see Shaq or Martellus Bennet doing such a thing.

  • When I was eighteen I drove to Abilene.
  • I also watched a George Washington special on the History Channel.  There is a lot of false information about him that many believe is true.
  • I’ve also been glued to the DIY (Do It Yourself) channel.  Two shows grab my attention.  There’s one where a contractor just roams around a hardware store and asks a random shopper if he can help them with their project, and then they go all out on the project surprising the shopper.   The other show just follows people who have no idea what they are doing as they try to work on a first time project all by themselves.
