Perry’s cousin killed by sheriff’s deputies

AUSTIN — The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting death of a cousin of Gov. Rick Perry in a mysterious exchange of gunfire with sheriff’s deputies.

An attorney for Larry Don Wheeler’s estate says the 74-year-old North Texas man was sitting on his backyard deck after dinner Saturday night at his home at a Montague County country club. David Gossom says that’s when sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance call.

Montague County District Attorney Jack McGaughey says Wheeler was holding a shotgun and an officer was shot in the hand. No other details have been released, and an autopsy is pending.

Perry’s office wouldn’t elaborate on his relationship with Wheeler, a retired social worker listed as a member of Perry’s 2006 re-election campaign steering committee.

Autopsy shocker: Jackson was healthy

Michael Jackson’s arms were covered with punctures, his face and neck were scarred and he had tattooed eyebrows and lips, but he wasn’t the sickly skeleton of a man portrayed by tabloids, according to his autopsy report obtained by The Associated Press.

In fact, the Los Angeles County coroner’s report shows Jackson was a fairly healthy 50-year-old before he died of an overdose. His 136 pounds were in the acceptable range for a 5-foot-9 man. His heart was strong with no sign of plaque buildup. And his kidneys and most other major organs were normal.

I think this part will surprise a lot of people:

Aside from propofol and the sedatives, the only substances found in his system were the local anesthetic, Lidocaine, sometimes used to numb injection sites and ephedrine, a commonly used resuscitation stimulant.

No other drugs — legal or otherwise — were detected, nor was any alcohol.

Empty Bladder Saves Gas

Japan’s All Nippon Airways (ANA) is asking its passengers to go to the toilet before boarding so it can reduce aircraft weight.

The unusual request is part of an experiment by the airline to cut carbon dioxide emissions.

Japan’s NHK television is reporting that ANA began the one-month experiment today on 42 international and domestic flights.

The airline will place staff near boarding gates to ask passengers waiting for flights to go and use the restroom.

ANA hopes it will reduce the weight of the aircraft and cut nearly five tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions from flights.

The airline says it may expand the trial if it is well received by passengers.
