Bag of Randomness

  • There have now been two Cowboys games that were played in the new stadium with the roof open during the daytime.  I was wondering if there would be any weird shadows cast on the field with the screen and all, after all, that was one problem with Texas Stadium.  But it appears that the field is so far below ground level (three stories) that it really isn’t a problem.  There are some small lights spots from the windows, but overall the field looks great during the afternoon with the roof open.
  • How is it I didn’t hear a thing about about the second half of the game being broadcasted in 3-D on the Jerry-tron?
  • I’m surprised Jerry wasn’t on the field when Ware got hurt, and it was almost comical when CBS showed Jerry with both hands over his face during the injury.
  • Personally, I would rather see Jason Garret gone before Wade Phillips.  Fourth and one on the goal and you want linemen to pull?
  • I think I miss Texas Stadium.
  • “I would turn in all three Super Bowl rings and my Hall of Fame bust for one undefeated season.” Michael Irvin
  • I wonder if there are any kids that attend an NFL game for the first time that are surprised the yellow first down doesn’t really display on the field.  It’s kind of hard to believe we’ve had that line now for over a decade.
  • There’s just something about the NFL cheerleader in the Santa outfits, but the Cowboys Cheerleaders’ outfits don’t look quit right.
  • My latest addiction is Einstein Bros bagels.  I love it that they call their cream cream “shmear.”
  • James Cameron’s Avatar sure does look interesting and I’m glad someone is actually bringing something original to the movie screen.
  • I was talking to the manager who mentioned that a Einstein Bros store somewhat recently opened in Tyler and on its first day sold over $7,000 in bagels.  That’s a lot of bagels.
  • AskMen.com has compiled the top ten video game weapons – I’m glad to see that the Contra Spread Gun made the list, but was surprised there was no Halo entries.
  • Speaking of Halo, check out this review – I recommend watching it in HD.

Dogs vs cats: The great pet showdown

There are obvious pitfalls in trying to use science to resolve this perennial dispute. Every pet-owner knows their furry family member is special – a unique being with its own talents and foibles.

Yet scientific research tends to look at species as a whole and deals in averages and trends when attempting to quantify their characteristics. Then there is the thorny issue of comparing two very different animals. Some might argue that the whole venture is doomed to failure, but here at New Scientist we like a challenge. So we have pitted cats against dogs in 11 categories.

It’s a winner-take-all competition with “best in show” being awarded to the pet that prevails in the most categories. Let the fur fly…
