Bag of Randomenss

  • Modern Family is growing on me, and that was one heck of a sweet ending, it was an Ed on NBC moment . . . oddly enough, Julie Bowen was also the love interest.
  • I don’t watch Cougar Town but I did catch the beginning of it last night which had me cracking up when Courtney Cox made reference to her appearance in that Bruce Springsteen video and even did a little dance.  I think it would be funny if I were to somehow edit that video where I’m Bruce and WifeGeeding and her pregnant self is Courtney Cox and I pull her up stage and we both do that little dance number.
  • Man, Max Weinberg has some crazy hair in that video.  Speaking of Weinberg, I’m going to see Conan O’Brien tonight at SMU, which means I may not have time to blog for Friday.
  • If you are a GMail and Google Chrome user, you can now simply drag and drop attachments.
  • I’m I the only one that thinks shooting golf balls and old tires to plug up that oil well in the gulf is kinda odd?
  • New burger record
  • Analogical Tetris – I highly advise just skipping to somewhere around the three minute mark because that intro is torture.
  • Three TV series will be filming in Dallas
  • Dennis Quaid is going to play Bill Clinton in an upcoming movie on HBO.  So far, he kinda looks the part, but I think Phil Hartman did one of the best Clintons ever.  Speaking of which . . .

Huh, the name Shakira was used . . . has a much more different meaning today, doesn’t it?

Random LOST Thoughts

  • I was going to stop doing these posts but after a few requests I figured what the heck.
  • I think it’s obvious the writers don’t want anyone to judge a book by its cover.  We were lead to believe that the MIB was just an evil guy, now we learn that’s not necessarily the case.
  • And it’s obvious neither Jacob and the MIB are Cain and Able or Jacob and Esau, but there were a lot of Eden type of things in the episode.  Instead of an apple, there was Jacob tempted to play the forbidden game (senet).  Instead of the tree of knowledge, there’s the funky shiny river cave, a communion moment.  Yada, yada, yada.
  • Even though it was never shown, I bet the mother was also a Smokie – how else did she kill all those other people?  But I’ll even take it a step further.  Remember at the beginning of the episode when pregnant survivor Claudia wondered onto The Island and found water and saw the reflection of the OtherMother?  It seemed eerily similar to this Mr Eko scene with Smokie.
  • It sure would be great if Mr Eko somehow make a comeback, I liked that character.
  • Remember Dogen’s instructions to Sayid on how to kill UnLocke? Sayid had to plunge the knife into UnLocke’s chest before he said a word, but was unsuccessful.  Well, MIB was able to do this to his OtherMother who I believe was a Smokie and actually died.
  • UnLocke dumped Desmond, who we found out recently can defy crazy magnetic devices, in that well that we found out last night was magnetized.
  • I think before the deaths, both Jacob and MIB could leave The Island, the mother was just playing head games.
  • The OtherMother may have raised one kid to take her place and the other to take her life . . . all part of her plan of escape.
  • I think the temple is built over the funky shiny river cave, which is why the temple has that pool inside of it.  And because Sayid was in that water, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him come back, or even be the final candidate.  I hope not as that would make for a bad storyline.
  • I liked how this episode didn’t show any new material from any of the regular LOST characters, but at the end used a clip from the first season to reveal who the Adam and Eve skeletons was.
  • This episode had a Lord of the Flies feel to it.
  • There seems to be a repeat theme, that no one is brought to The Island by accident, leaders change, and the actions of all tend to repeat themselves.  This leads me to believe the series will end with just another cast of characters following the same pattern, ”They come, they fight, they destroy, they corrupt, and it always ends the same.”
  • LOST is auctioning items from their set if you are interested.  I think I would like Mr Eko’s Bible Stick.

Working in Fear

It’s a coworkers birthday, and I decided to take him out to lunch.

When I get back to me desk, this was waiting for me inside a blank envelope.

This all started because this one girl at work would never remove a glass vase at her desk.  It just sat there empty, month after month, and I thought it would be funny to just put some goldfish in there, which I did.

However, she didn’t show up to work that morning because she had to fly to Illinois since her mother was admitted to the hospital, so there went the surprise.  But other people noticed the fish and texted her about it and one thing turns into another and it turned into this big mystery – who left the  goldfish.  Heck, before I know it the whole department was in a contest to name the fish.  They were named Login and Password, respectively.

Well, before she came back (her mother turned out to be just fine btw) one of the goldfish died, that’s right, Password expired.  I didn’t think it was fair for her not to have seen the two goldfish and the team was complaining how lonely Login would be, so I bought another one.  Then there was another death, so I had to buy another one.

By this time, the mystery of the fish dropper-offer was growing and I just couldn’t simply reveal myself, it would just be too prosaic; so I put together a scavenger hunt all over the building on April Fools’ Day which resulted in the last clue being found at my desk.

Eventually all the goldfish died and has been replaced with a single Beta, who we, as a tech team, has name . . . Beta.

But now I work in fear because of that note.

Developing . . .

Shipping Confusion

The second website I visit every morning is Woot.com to see what’s for sale (the first being a news website).  On the morning of April 27, I decided to pull the trigger on a purchase and on April 29 I received an email and tracking number stating that my item was shipped by FedEx.

I received the item on May 10.  That’s right, it took 11 days for the item to be delivered, but what’s crazier is that it was shipped from a place that is only 10 miles from my house.  Seriously, I wish there was an option for me to just drive by and pick up an item I ordered.

To add to my confusion, the sticker on the package didn’t have any reference to FedEx, but UPS, and it was left in my mailbox.  Usually, FedEx and UPS items are left on my doorstep.
