Button Confusion

I’m seriously thinking about getting a new phone and have pretty much narrowed it down to the Samsung Nexus S (on the left) and the Samsung Epic (on the right).

In comparing the two phones, I noticed the navigation buttons are in different orders even though they both operate the same operating system and made by the same manufacturer, but I can’t think of a logical reason why.
