Bag of Randomness

  • Gov Good Hair made a comment recently that military members and veterans would prefer a commander in chief that actually served in the armed forces.  For the most part, I would agree.  I always thought it was strange for Dick Cheney to be the Secretary of Defense (under the first President Bush) when he had no military service himself.
  • Gov Good Hair also made some ‘threatening’ remarks about Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke.  He basically was commenting on how Bernanke and the Fed were keeping the fed funds rate at almost zero, and GGH said he would view Bernanke “treasonous” if he printed more money, and if he was in Texas, he’d treat him “pretty ugly” [source].  Obama was asked about this by Wolf Blitzer, but surprisingly he didn’t take a shot and attack (I think it’s because Obama respects the hair too much.)  The President basically just said it was a beginners mistake and candidates have to be careful when they speak.
  • I’ve been impressed with the CBS Evening News‘ political analysis as of late.  They talked about GGH’s dress, tone, and delivery the day after he made those remarks, which all showed he was no longer shooting from the hip.  He might be a lot like W in that regard, too down home to speak on a national level.
  • GGH has taken a few shots at W over the years, but now it appears that some Bushies are slamming Rick Perry’s Bernanke comment.
  • For seventeen of the past forty-eight years, a Texan has lived in the White House.  Source
  • Michelle Bachmann confused Elivs’ birthday with his death day.
  • I don’t like what Obama is doing with this bus tour.  It seems too much like a campaign event (which it is) and since its focus is on stimulating job growth, it seem.s too little too late.
  • Remember televangelist Jimmy Baker?  He has his own cereal now.
  • Wells Fargo to test $3 a month debit card fee – I’m thinking this isn’t the smartest of moves.
  • There’s a restaurant in DC that makes you sign a contract.  Basically, no cell phones, cameras, or cancellations.
  • Here’s a lasting image for you.  A terminally ill mother who couldn’t attend her daughter’s wedding was able to watch her first dance via Sykpe.  Image and blog post.

Bag of Randomness

  • I can now say that I’ve been to a wedding in which the bride and groom were both late for their own wedding.  The groom was late due to President Obama’s motorcade.  The bride was late due to navigational issues.  But hey, it all worked out, and it will make for a memory they can laugh at for years to come.
  • After the wedding we ate at some hard-to-get-into place and one of the appetizers was bone marrow.  You basically just scoop out the marrow with a spoon.  Think, meaty jello.

  • Oh, here’s a collage of pictures I put together of the couple.  The pictures were taken with my little point-and-click and they didn’t turn out so great, so I had to add some effects to make them look decent.
  • The day after the ceremony WifeGeeding and I took the NBC tour.  While waiting on the elevators to take us up, Stephen Colbert appeared carrying a suit (in a Colbert Nation themed suit bag) and carrying a fencing sword.  He was pretty friend, but not in character.  We would have snapped a pic, but you aren’t allowed to use a camera on the tour.
  • Before the tour, we checked out the Museum of Modern Art.  It was nice seeing some Van Gogh’s and Picasso’s and the like, but for the most part I really didn’t enjoy it because all the ‘new’ stuff was way over my head.  WifeGeeding seemed to enjoy herself, but I tried to make the best of it.
  • There are certain things that I’ve always been proud of.  For instance, I’ve never been stranded on the road because I ran out of gas.  I also have been very proud of the fact that I have never missed a flight . . . until now.  Due to some massive traffic in Manhattan and despite leaving two hours early to Newark, we missed out flight by five minute.  It was so frustrating come so close, and even a bit embarrassing and exciting running like OJ in the airport.
  • We had to stay the night in Jersey.  Yes, Jersey.  In honor of Chris Christie, I had a bacon cheese burger.
  • While sitting crazy traffic during my trip to Newark, I saw this crazy warning about dolphins.  I guess they are getting aggressive.
  • I loath traveling, but I’ll be off to Chicago this Thursday.  I’ll get back into a blogging groove once all this travel is done with.
  • Someone comments on this blog using the name “Ricardo Perry.”  I have to admit, every time I see that name, I giggle.
  • Speaking of Gov Good Hair, I have to give credit to his campaign staff.  The Iowa Straw Poll is really nothing more than a joke.  Just take a look at the Republican winners back in 2007.  McCain, who won his party’s nomination, came in 10th.  Gov Good Hair’s staff was smart enough to steal the thunder from the results of that poll by making his announcement on that day, and he saved resources to be better used in the first primary state of New Hampshire.
  • Gov Good Hair will end up pulling a W by courting the Evangelicals and the fiscal conservatives, and once (or if) he wins the nomination, he’ll go back on some of those principles to court the independents.  So for right now, it’s all about winning the nomination.
  • I have a good friend that thinks if Gov Good Hair wins the nomination, his running mate will be Giuliani.  That would be a smart move.
  • You may think this is a joke, but it’s true, Gov Good Hair had a vasectomy that was performed by his father-in-law.
  • I just discovered Google Advisor.  If you are looking for a new mortgage, checking account, credit card, or the like, check it out.
  • Speaking of Google, they just bought mobile phone maker Motorola Mobility.  I would not be surprised that by the end of the year Google buys Sprint.
  • I’m proud of both Warren Buffett and Howard Schultz.
  • The SEC is also playing it smart with Texas A&M.  I think they want to invite them over, but they first want to make sure they are going to be a contender and aren’t going to soften their conference.  They’ve been mediocre for a while, and this year may just prove they should be taken seriously.
  • I spoke with a pastor the other day who told me he’d rather do funerals than weddings.
