Bag of Randomness

  • One of my posts from last week is causing my sidebar to appear at the bottom.  Just give it a week and it should fix it self.
  • Why the heck did we only have one NFL game to watch at noon yesterday? And why the heck was their another game aired in our area during the Cowboys game? #firstworldpains
  • The NFL is really picky when it comes to uniform standards, and as of late has been very big on protecting their players, yet I see a lot of players wearing pants above the knee and no knee or thigh pads.
  • That was a fun Cowboys game to watch, and I think Romo, if he hasn’t yet, has earned the respect of his teammates.
  • That Miles Austin stretch into the end zone will be a highlight clip for years to come.
  • Taking the opening kickoff for an 8-minute long drive to the one-yard-line only to miss a field goal is equivalent to courting a girl for months only to find out she just wants to be friends.
  • Man, there were sure a lot of Cowboys fans in the crowd, as evident from the cheering after that winning field goal.
  • For you HIMYM fans, I don’t think we’ll see Barnie and Robin wed because in the previews, we see Robin in just an ordinary dress.
  • While eating Mexican food the other night we turned our heads from ToddlerGeeding for only about five seconds when we noticed her munching on a jalapeno.  I don’t think she’ll be any jalapenos anytime soon.
  • Remember those days not so long ago when texting it took about three pushes of the same button for one letter?
  • Westboro Baptist Church was doing one of their infamous protests when the Foo Fighters decided to counter protest by playing a gig on a flat bed trailer right in front of them.

  • Clint Eastwood in GQ discusses his days as an Eisenhower Republican.
  • I remember as a kid in school having to raise my hand to be called on, and sometimes it would be left in the air so long that I got tired and it just kind of laid on top of my head.  Well, this guy has been raising his hand for about 38 years.

Alzheimer’s Sucks

By now I’m sure you have heard the Pat Robertson comments about divorcing a spouse due to Alzheimer’sNightline had a segment on it last night, and at the end of the segment we see a couple that have been married for over 60 years.  The wife has been suffering from the disease and lives at a retirement home, but every night her husband crawls into bed and sings to her, softly in her ear.

I admit this picture is reminiscent of that Titanic scene of the old couple in bed as the ship starts flooding, but unlike the fictional movie based upon a real event, what we see above is true compassion, it’s living up to your vows, it’s death to you part.

But this story reminds me of the extremely touching segment I saw on CBS Sunday Morning in which correspondent Barry Peterson speaks about his wife who has early-onset Alzheimer’s and who can’t remember that Peterson is her husband, but can only remember him in the third person.  Peterson continues to be dedicated to his wife, but now is in a new relationship with another women, who is also dedicated to carrying for Jan and loving Peterson.

Below is both the Nightline and CBS Sunday Morning piece if you are interested.  If you have to courage to watch them, I ‘m sure it will make an impact.
