Bag of Randomness

  • I really got into pumpkin carving this year, you can see my two jack-o-lanterns above.
  • The last four pictures were all taken with my mobile phone using the special effects features.
  • ToddlerGeeding did something very heartwarming yesterday.  She decided to bring WifeGeeding’s shoes to her and pointed to them as if to say “put them on.”  She then did the same with me, but then grabbed my hand and pulled me over to WifeGeeding and grabbed her hand and then lead us to the front door and pointed for us to open it.  While holding both of our hands, she lead us down the sidewalk for a little walk.
  • This was cute the first four times she did that yesterday.
  • During game six of the World Series when the Rangers looked like they were just about to win the series, I put together a nice collection of thoughts about what it meant to me and North Texas to see the Rangers win it all.  I guess I’ll just have to file that post away for at least another year.
  • You can’t blame bad umping, postponement of a day due to bad weather, or the victor of the All Star Game getting World Series home field advantage rule when you are one strike from winning the World Series.  Twice.
  • Surprisingly the sun rose the next morning after game seven.  How dare it.
  • It has still been a great sports year sandwiched between those two World Series appearances with the Rangers, with the Mavs winning it all, with TCU going undefeated and winning the Rose Bowl, and a Super Bowl played in the area.
  • I hear Texas Ranger Derek Holland was doing what he can (Twitter, Facebook?) to get folks interested in the Dallas Stars.  That’s a pretty darn classy thing to do considering the lack of attendance the Stars had during the Rangers’ playoff run.
  • I haven’t caught a lot of Stanford games this year, but I did catch a little of the Standford/USC game just to see Andrew Luck.  Like most quarterbacks, he has a play-call wrist band, but on one play, he not only looked at his wrist band in the huddle, but the center lifted up his arm and Luck flip it open and read something off of it.  Stanford either has a very complex offense that takes two wrist bands to run or they have a lot a plays.  Or both.
  • Next to the Philadelphia Eagles bench was a Purel hand sanitizer stand.  That just seemed a bit out of place.
  • I’m looking forward to watching Rock Center with Brian Williams tonight on NBC.  I bet it’s going to be a better version of 60 Minutes with some light comedy mixed in (Jon Stewart is making an appearing and they are notorious at jabbing one another).  Not to mention, he’s got some heavyweights contributing to that show like Ted Koppel, Harry Smith, and I think Edward R. Murrow.
  • This will probably be the last Steve Jobs tribute you will read about, but this one is from his sister in a op-ed in the New York Times and reveals his final words.  In there she states he went through 67 nurses before he settled on three, and I found this part quite fascinating about his last days: Intubated, when he couldn’t talk, he asked for a notepad. He sketched devices to hold an iPad in a hospital bed. He designed new fluid monitors and x-ray equipment. He redrew that not-quite-special-enough hospital unit.
  • All eyes regarding the abortion debate will be on Mississippi this Nov 8.
  • Justin Beiber had a Cadillac turned into a custom made Batmobile
  • GOP presidential candidates’ favorite movies – Herman Cain’s is kinda predictable, and Ron Paul loves him some Sound of Music.
  • Here’s the theatrical trailer for the new Mission Impossible movie.  Tom Cruise’s first movie of that series was 15 years ago in 1996.
