Son (Joe Buck) Honors Father (Jack Buck)

For you non-sports fan, Joe Buck has been the play-by-play commentator for the World Series games you’ve been watching on TV for the past 14 years.  His father is Jack Buck and was also a legendary broadcaster.

I’m not sure if this was intentional, pure instinct, or whatnot, but as a son who misses his father, I found this touching, even if it came with a Rangers loss.

A Story About a Marine’s Brotherhood Stood Above Racism

There were times, though, when a Marine’s sense of brotherhood transcended the racial divide. Fizer said he once was sitting in a bus station in Jacksonville, N.C., returning to base after leave, when a Marine asked why Fizer hadn’t boarded a bus yet. Fizer told him they allowed only one black for every 10 whites who boarded a bus.

The Marine pulled out his .45-caliber pistol and pointed it at the head of the station clerk.

“I want him on the bus immediately,” the Marine said, a cigarette dangling from his lips. The frightened clerk complied, Fizer said.

  • It may be un-American, but I’m just not a McRib fan.  But I did learn it was invented by a meat scientist from Nebraska and a Luxembourg-born, French-trained chef from the Drake Hotel [Article].  That article also mentions the ingredients and how it’s actually made.
  • All of that reminds me of a segment I saw on a Jamie Oliver show in which he shows kids how chicken nuggets are made, it’s very eye-opening and made me change some of my eating habits.
  • How woodpeckers avoid head injury
  • There was a television series on CBS in the 90’s called Due South that dealt with a Canadian Mountie and an American cop.  I actually enjoyed that series and makes me think that all Canadians are uber nice.
  • I just found out that Bing.com has a great map feature where you can look at your house or other place from different angles.  For example, here’s my church, just click on those arrows in the upper right to look all around it.
  • Warner Brothers provides this disclaimer before their old cartoons to confront racism.
  • A strange costume for little girls, and here’s one for boys to match.
  • Top 200 Church Blogs – Nope, this blog didn’t make the list, but I also don’t think this is a church blog as it has a whole bag of nothing.
