  • I bought the dogs a new dog bowl, but DogGeedingII is hesitant to drink from it. It’s one of those that has an upside down jug attached to it so you don’t have to fill it up so often. He approaches it slowly, then scratches at it, and then looks at me. I’ve never seen the jug do that gurgle thing bottled water dispenser towers do, so I don’t think that’s what is spooking him.
  • I’ve been watching some  M. Night Shyamalan movies with my kids. We started with The 6th Sense  and then watched Unbreakable. While watching the latter, a lot of memories of things in my life that happened at that time started to hit me. It was a very uncertain time in my life. My dad recently died, I graduated from college, moved to the big city, didn’t get a competitive enough score on a standardized test to become an Air Force officer (my dream job) after taking it two times, a cold relationship between me and my brother started, and I failed my Series 7 examination, which would have enabled me to trade stocks. That Series 7 one really hit me hard because I majored in finance and couldn’t pass the lowest qualifying test of my profession to start my career, when my roommates who didn’t major in finance passed the test on their first try. I felt like I was in the middle of a lake without a paddle, much like I do now. Sometime after watching that movie, things started to look up. Let’s hope it happens a second time.
  • I’m not sure how my dogs do it, but they know when I’m about to step away from my computer before I do. I think when I lock it there’s a certain way I hit the keyboard, and they have identified that as a time I can give them attention.
  • My ex consistently does a lot of small stuff I think violates our divorce decree, but I feel like pointing them out to her, no matter how polite or friendly, will only make things worst, so I just let her get away with it, though I will log the event. I’m sure she does the same thing. What I’m not sure about is if she does those things willfully to annoy me, to avoid any communication or conflict, or if they are simple oversights. It’s probably a combination, but it would be interesting to know the percentages of each. Could I contact my lawyer about it? Sure, but that costs money. In our legal system, justice mostly occurs only if you have the funds to cover it.
  • Two Big Additions to Dallas Skyline PlannedAn 80-story building on North Field Street would become the city’s tallest building, taller than the Bank of America Plaza. The other project would occupy normally vacant surface parking lots south of Dallas City Hall.
    • I’m not a visionary, nor do I know much about real estate, but I’m thinking it’s a bad time to build. More companies are allowing their workers to work from home and construction costs are sky high. Also, it seems companies prefer to be in the suburbs, where traffic isn’t as congested as a downtown area.
  • I was thinking about taking the kids to go tubing down the Frio River at Concan, but I saw on the Texas Reddit thread that 5 of their 8 wells were inoperable and they started rationing water by turning it off intermittently.

  • DaughterGeeding wants to learn how to properly pitch a softball. I’m trying to find someone to teach her the basics.
  • Anytime I have the kids, I can hear the countdown clock tick away until they have to leave. But, at least during the summer, the countdown is longer.
  • Something smells really fishy with how the city of Uvalde is handling things.
  • An economist paid Dallas kids $2 to read a book and complete a short quiz about it. Their performance skyrocketed and they spent the money on food and other basic needs.

  • A hidden swear word on a headstone has stirred controversy in this Iowa community
    • A loving message on headstone at a cemetery in Polk County, Iowa, hides a not-so-decent joke in honor of the deceased man’s unique sense of humor. But not everyone in town finds it funny. Steven Paul Owens’ headstone at Warren-Powers Cemetery displays states: “Forever in our hearts, until we meet again, cherished memories, known as: our son, brother, father, papa, uncle, friend & cousin.” But this seemingly normal text is aligned so that the first letter of every sentence spells, “F**k off.”
  • Texas Seceding From U.S. ‘Would Mean War,’ Law Expert Says
    • A case following the Civil War made it clear that the state’s seceding from the United States is an unlikely and untenable scenario. In 1868’s Texas v. White decision, the Court said leaving the Union can happen only through one of two ways: “revolution” or “consent of the States.”“When, therefore, Texas became one of the United States, she entered into an indissoluble relation…. The union between Texas and the other States was as complete, as perpetual, and as indissoluble as the union between the original States. There was no place for reconsideration, or revocation, except through revolution, or through consent of the States,” the Court’s ruling read.At its convention over the weekend, the Republican Party of Texas voted on several measures for possible inclusion into the party’s official platform, including one seeking a 2023 referendum on whether the Lone Star State should break away from the United States.

  • I had a great Father’s Day weekend. Again, I took the kids to the lake, and we had a blast. It was the first time I swam or did any activity in a lake in about 23 years (last week I didn’t get in the water). Thankfully, my back didn’t pay the price the next morning from all the tubing I did. Actually, I’m grateful. Just seven months ago, I didn’t have fine motor skills or walk unassisted. In some ways, it’s a miracle I’m fully recovered.
  • In addition to that awesome video DaughterGeeding made for me for Father’s Day, she gave me a unique Homer Simpson mug I will drink coffee out of this morning. BoyGeeding wished me a happy Father’s Day when he first saw me and right before bedtime gave me a new blanket. I thought he wasn’t going to give me anything, which would have been okay. I’m just glad to have them with me for the day much less the weekend.
  • It was odd/weird that on Father’s Day and Juneteenth, Wordle’s answer yesterday was “LOSER”. What were they thinking?
  • If you live in Texas and want to see what’s on your driving record, you can request it online.
  • My electricity plan was set to expire. The plans they gave me were much more expensive than what I was using, so I decided to choosetexaspower.org, and found a rate 5 khw cheaper. Switching probably took me less than 90-seconds. I was amazed at how easy and fast it was. It’s my understanding that this is mainly because of the work of a BoN reader. It all started because of the NFC Championship game the Cowboys lost to the 49ers, you know, “The Catch”. Driving home one day I heard him interviewed about it on NPR, here’s the audio and transcript if you’re curious. And a special thank-you to him for serving and helping all Texans.
  • I thought this nicely summed up the biggest issue I’m having with my ex and her avoidance of having a conversation. It hit the nail on the head.
  • One challenge I’ve faced is making sense of a saying I always believed in: “You don’t give up on the ones you love.” I did a little research and found this, which was helpful, though I deny there was any manipulation on my part.
  • This is a cute family moment for the Obamas, and I get a kick out of the tweet since it was from Obama’s White House photographer who followed him around for eight years. I bet few others know the man better than him.

  • No telling what my kids will remember when I ask them this question in their adult years.
