Breakfast Made Better

In his quest to create the perfect plate for devouring pancakes, designer Jon Wye broke down the elements of what makes a pillowy stack so comforting. After a lifelong love affair with breakfast, Wye pin-pointed the crux of satisfaction: syrup. Designed with a raised edge that gently slopes the plate toward the diner and an ingenious reservoir for pooling loose syrup, this plate was made for slicing, dipping and delighting in each bite of pancake goodness. But the best part? This plate enhances any saucy dish down to the last drop.

Bag of Randomness

  • My high school assistant principal died this week.  He was one of those men that got really became part of the fiber of a small community by being part of the volunteer fire department, emergency services, as well as all other sort of civic duties.  Two things about him really stood out.  When I was at freshman orientation, the atmosphere was very light as mostly seniors were speaking, and you can tell they had a bit of senioritis.  But when it was his turn to speak, the first thing he said was something to the affect of  “don’t be like the seniors on stage who are not taking this program seriously, but haven’t taken the last three years seriously and will be regretful when there time here is done.”   He was also responsible for helping my parents adopt my cousin from Vietnam as he wrote the eloquent and supportive letter of recommendation.  There’s just something about reading a kind letter about your parents.
  • There’s been a lot of talk about the local model that walked into a plane’s propeller who lost her left hand and suffered some other significant injuries.  But whenever I hear the word “propeller” I’m reminded of the time my father told me when he was a young man in the Navy back in WWII and how he was responsible for timing the propellers on fighter planes so that bullets could fly through them without damaging them, or something like that.  You can read about how that was done here.  Man, Wikipedia has everything.
  • My father also earned his wing as a gunner flying on a PV-1 Ventura.  At one time he was shot down and lost at sea for two days.
  • Yes, my dad had me late in life.  He was born in 1923, I was born in 1975.

  • I goofed when I said the late Gov Ann Richards was responsible for getting Baylor in the Big XII.  I remember reading this article way back when, but confused the roles of Bob Bullock and the former governor.
  • I have a friend that remembers those old Bob Bullock campaign commercials and he likes to do the whole “I’m Bob Bullock” routine.  Funny thing, but I can’t find one of those commercials on YouTube.
  • Interesting WWII fact . . . In 1916 the British anticipated a battle with Germany so they planted 455 tons of explosives underground.  A year later during the Battle of Messines, 10,000 German soldiers were killed instantly as the Brits set off the explosive once the Germans were in place.
  • Newt Gingrich stated he would ask former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton to be his secretary of state if he’s elected president next year.  But that’s breaking the law and I had no idea.
