- John Smoltz’s father died yesterday and John still announced the Field of Dreams game on Fox last night. There’s no way I could do that without crying.
- I met a lady through a dating app for dinner last night. We decided to start a friendship. She’s pretty darn interesting.
- One thing I’m starting to notice in recent Beto town hall photos are the spectators have gray or white hair. His demographic used to be much younger.

- Google to stop giving answers to silly questions
- Google will stop giving snappy answers to stupid questions, the company has announced, as it seeks to improve its search engine’s “featured snippets” service. That means users should see fewer answers to questions such as “When did Snoopy assassinate Abraham Lincoln?”, to which the service would once merrily respond with “1865” – the right date, but very much the wrong assassin.
- Sad if this is true.

- What do ya know, it is possible for rain to fall on North Texas in August. Grass will turn from brown to yellow.
- For the first day of school, I neither see my kids off or greet them when they get home. So, I called yesterday evening to see how things went. They are at that stage where they are too cool to talk about it.
- I have no problem with a defendant invoking the Fifth. The right exists for a reason. But if you consistently claim that only guilty people invoke it, and then invoke it yourself, that’s being a hypocrite.
- I’m glad to see Texas voters at least get to witness one debate – Greg Abbott agrees to one debate with Beto O’Rourke, but O’Rourke wants more
- This is disheartening – designed is getting more expensive… unless you want ads
- I have a dinner date tonight. I’m not a fan of meeting and eating. The emphasis is on getting to know one another, not the meal or venue. It’s awkward trying to talk and time your bite so you don’t have that awkward pause of chewing while trying to answer a question. It adds to the awkward silence.

Do you want to understand why Texas is the way it is? You have to know who is funding the politicians. 26 people have poured over $56,000,000 in the past 12 months into Texas politics. This illustrates the who and where.#DeepInThePocketsOfTexas#txlege pic.twitter.com/3PIlQIQgNn

- I think this axiom applies for the first day of school for many of us parents – The Years Go Fast but the Days Go Slow
- While at trivia night last night, a longtime reader I’ve never met introduced himself. It was an honor meeting him, and he had no idea how much I appreciated that hug he offered. But I’ll be honest, I wish he would have been a hot chick.
- We totally bucked the trend, “‘The Lowest Odds of Divorce’ Are among Religious Young Adults Who Don’t Cohabitate
- I had a great conversation with my date the other night. She was also divorced. We talked about the possibility of marrying non-Christians and what type we’d be open to. Both of us felt we were equally yoked when we were married, and we tried that and followed that method, faithfully, and it didn’t work. Why should we follow something that we were told would work but didn’t? With that said, ladies, please form a single-file line to the left.
- Tomorrow I’ll be going toon my second e-Harmony date. That’s a sentence I never would have thought I’d write.
- One of my “tests” for a potential wife is that she doesn’t bat an eye at dining at IHOP – Richer people are eating more at Applebee’s and IHOP
Danielle Wiener-Bronner byline - I attended a “Pub Theology” event. Again, I’m getting out of my comfort zone. What I didn’t know was I’d be the youngest person there by at least 15 years. One discussion about the comfort of “home” and what does that mean has stuck with me. The definition of “home” has changed for me several times in my life and I can’t really define it now. The same goes with “family”.
- I vividly remember how painful it was to type “Divorce” to name a new folder I created on a cloud drive. It feels like that happened a decade ago.

- It’s interesting how Fox News will frame a story.
- I still remember the combination to open the Master Lock lock I used from fifth-grade to my senior year. Yesterday, I helped DaughterGeeding with her new Master Lock. To my surprise, two of the six numbers are exactly the same and in the same order. The one number that is off, is only off by two digits.
- Fellow lovers of American or presidential history mourn the loss of David McCullough, Best-Selling Explorer of America’s Past, at 89. I knew the man was old, but not that old.
- The movie Grease is highly, highly over-rated.
- I like Nicolas Cage, but haven’t seen two of his most well-known movies, Conair and Raising Arizona. My favorite fact about him is that his uncle is Francis Ford Coppola.
- When dinosaurs still roamed the planet 70 million years ago, a single day on Earth lasted about 23 1/2 hours, according to a 2020 study published in Paleoceanography and Paleoclimatology.
- I’m tying my darndest to work respectfully and civilly with my ex, but it is by far the hardest thing I’ve had to go through in my life. So much can be accomplished with a verbal face-to-face interaction, but that’s not an option. But I realize, and I’m grateful, it literally could be worse.
