Bag of Randomness

  • During the July 4th weekend of 2003, Mitt Romney hopped on a Jet Ski with two of his sons at night to rescue a drowning family of four, their two friends, and their dog.
  • The new season of Mad Men is less than a month away and AMC has released the season five poster, which includes Don Draper staring at a reflection of himself while passing a department store window that includes a nude mannequin.  The series creator has this to say about it,  “a nonverbal representation of where my head is at and where the show will be… By the end of the season I guarantee you’ll know what it is about.”
  • I saw that one of my blogging friends wondered if SIDS was still a major concern because you don’t often hear about it anymore.  Of the things I’m concerned about in life right now, SIDS ranks very, very, very high and I’m checking on SonGeeding’s breathing every 20-minutes or so and making sure nothing is obstructing his air way.  I do remember this story on WFAA (Dec 2010) about a black couple losing their child to SIDS and then having his organs donated to a white couple.   This NPR article (July 2011) states that in the U.S., more than 2,000 babies die of SIDS every year.
  • A collection of photos of people posing with everything they own in one pile.  This reminds me of traveling from home to college and realizing everything I own basically fits in the truck on my car.
  • An interview with the voice behind Admiral Ackbar, which as more interesting and touching than I would have thought.  He even auditioned for the voice of Yoda.
  • According to the Los Angeles Times, Oscar voters are 94% white and 77% male. Only 14% of voters are under 50.
