  • It was only until yesterday I realized that home plate in baseball resembles a house.

  • Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Randy Johnson is now a professional photographer, and often shoots at NFL games. If you are familiar with Johnson, you know his history of accidentally killing a bird with one of his pitches. I mention that because it’s incorporated in his website’s logo.


    My career as a Major League baseball pitcher has been well documented, but what is not as well known is my passion for photography, which began when I studied photojournalism at the University of Southern California from 1983-85. Baseball became my occupation for two decades but my love of photography never left. Following my 2010 retirement, I was able to focus my attention back to this passion.

  • Angela Lansbury died. I remember when Murder She Wrote would follow 60 Minutes. As a kid, I couldn’t think of anything else that could have been more old and boring than those two shows back-to-back. Both signaled the end of the weekend.

  • I still enjoy walking down the coffee aisle at the grocery store and smelling the aroma. I may smile every time.
  • As a kid and teen, I always wanted to check out Fright Fest at Six Flags Over Texas. I’m surprised I haven’t been there as an adult. I hear if you don’t want to be scared, you can buy an eight-dollar “No Boo” necklace so the actors know to stay away from you.
  • It’s awkward running into your ex at the grocery store with your kids.
  • Football has become a bit more fun with teams willing to go for it on fourth down more often.
  • We have the technology to send a rocket to crash into an asteroid 6.8 million miles away, but we still measure first downs with two sticks and a chain.
  • The last three times the Cowboys won the Super Bowl, their defense gave up an average of 254 points (over a 16-game season). If they maintain their current average of 14.4 points a game, that would be 244 points over 17 games. But, we all should hold our horses.
