Bag of Randomness

  • Here is a GREAT interactive article and video that details a race between Usain Bolt and every medalist in Olympic history.  If he raced Carl Lewis at his Olympic prime in the 100m, Lewis would lose by about ten feet.  More so, the video compares high school and grade school sprinters against some of the first Olympic sprinters.  Seriously, the video is well worth your watch.
  • If I tell someone they remind me of a celebrity, I try to make sure it’s one that will serve as a compliment.  Yesterday at Freebirds one of their employees said I reminded them of Champ Kind from the movie Anchorman.  I’m definitely no George Clooney.
  • I had a couple of emails asking me if I knew how much weight I loss during my 38-mile bike ride . . . eight pounds.  I thought I would be pretty sore the next morning but overall I feel pretty good.
  • I actually had to ride my bike for a while yesterday as both dogs escaped and I rode around the neighborhood for about ten minutes hunting them down.  Thankfully a neighbor heard our yelling and not only joined us in looking for our dogs but actually found one of them.  Thankfully all dogs are accounted for.
  • One of our non-English speaking neighbors that we don’t know that well came to our front door and invited us to their Catholic church for the baptism of one of their children.  They stated the whole service would be done in Spanish and if we couldn’t attend the service we were welcome to the baptism celebration after the service, and if we couldn’t attend either, we were welcome to the backyard cookout with family and friends celebrating the baptism.  I mentioned that it might be hard to attend with our six-month-old and two-year-old, and then they mentioned that perhaps I could just attend without the family.  Part of me wonders with their insistence that I’m not being lured into some type of murder for hire scheme.
  • I work from home and most meetings are held virtually by conference calls and with the ability to share computer screens via the miracle of the Internet, but yesterday I actually had to give a presentation to two folks at a physical location.  The meeting has been rescheduled twice over the past week, but we agreed to meet at 1:00 PM yesterday.  At 12:59 PM while waiting at the physical location with one of my coworkers, the other coworker sent an email to us stating she was sick and needed to rescheduled.  I may have done this while leaving the office.
  • OK, I didn’t but I really wanted to.
  • I’ve noticed a lot of runners in this Olympiad are wearing bright yellow shoes.
  • Michael Phelps’ rumored girlfriend is a blond model. Poor guy.
  • Something that will be a subject on sports radio come Friday – Woman to officiate NFL game for first time

The Love of Dogs

The beautiful expressions of 58 dogs in under 4 minutes.

Over the course of the last year, I filmed the expressions of dogs that came to stay at a boarding kennel where I work. There was always so much emotion behind their eyes and I imagined what they could say if they could talk. Every dog dealt with being temporarily separated from their home and family they loved in a different way.

Some barked- sometimes non-stop, others waited patiently for their family to return. Some were happy, some were sad, some excited, a nd others depressed. But they all had one thing in common- no matter the breed, size, shape or color, if you looked into their eyes you could see the deep love for their family and how much they missed them while they were away. I think this is true love. Hug your dog!
