  • I haven’t hand waxed a car since I was a teen.  My gosh, now that I think about it, it’s been about two decades since I hand waxed a car by myself.  Anywho, I gave it a try yesterday only to be interrupted by two neighbors.  One of those neighbors has a wife that is going in for surgery regarding her breast cancer this week, and the other let me know for the first time that his son died in a drive-by shooting as a Texas Tech student back in March.  The wax got pretty darn hard during all my talking and the sun actually set, but I think talking to my neighbors was well worth the hard wax dilemma.
  • I’ve lived in Lewisville for just about a decade and have never visited Sneaky Pete’s.  I’m just not a lake guy.
  • From my house, the Dallas County line is probably just a few hundred yards, if that.  We heard planes flying about a hundred feet from the ground doing their West Nile mosquito spraying thing.
  • We at at Randy White’s BBQ the other day.  The BBQ was decent, but the line was extremely slow for being so short, and I couldn’t figure out why.  I mean, it was insanely slow.
  • I noticed rice was an available side but couldn’t figure out if it was a Spanish rice, some kind of pilaf, or something else.  When I asked the guy behind the counter if that was Spanish rice, he just smile and pointed to the rice and said, “Rice.”  When I asked what kind of rice, he did the same thing.  We played that game a few more rounds and I just gave up and realized he didn’t speak a lick of English.
  • I noticed they had a bit of a Pancho’s raise the flag thing going, except with Texas flags.
  • It’s not a breastaraunt or anything, but one of their female employees looked like a younger version of Erin Andrews.
  • With every meal you get free ice cream and peach cobbler, and hot steamed towels are also readily available.
  • I guess saying hot and steamed is being a bit redundant.  But then again, so is saying cheddar cheese . . . is there any other kind of cheese . . . or tuna fish . . . there’s only one kind of tuna.
  • I watched The Hunger Games over the weekend.  To be honest, I enjoyed the Wikipedia write up about the book much better than the movie.
  • The Container Store sure does like their prices.  I wanted to buy some wall shelving for my home office and it was going to cost me over $200.  The next day I went to my local Ace Hardware and bought almost the same thing for $35.

9-Month-Old Witnesses Two Perfect Games This Season

Baseball fans all over the league would love Bode Dockal to come to their favorite team’s next game. He’s fairly new to the sport, having been to only two major league games, but the 9-month old might be baseball’s luckiest charm.

The only two games he’s ever been to were both perfect — he was in attendance at Philip Humber’s perfect game at Safeco Park on April 21. His next game was Felix Hernandez’s perfecto last week.

There have only been 23 perfect games in the nearly one and a half centuries of baseball history, and while there have been three this year, it’s still one of the rarest feats in baseball.

2,600 Year Old Pickled Brain Found

A human skull dated to about 2,684 years ago with an “exceptionally preserved” human brain still inside of it was recently discovered in a waterlogged U.K. pit, according to a new Journal of Archaeological Sciencestudy.

The brain is the oldest known intact human brain from Europe and Asia, according to the authors, who also believe it’s one of the best-preserved ancient brains in the world.

“The early Iron Age skull belonged to a man, probably in his thirties,” lead author Sonia O’Connor told Discovery News. “Cause of death is rarely possible to determine in archaeological remains, but in this case, damage to the neck vertebrae is consistent with a hanging.”

Laser imaging, chemical analysis and other examinations revealed that the brain naturally preserved over the millennia. The scientists found no evidence for bacterial or fungal activity, and described the tissue as being “odorless…with a resilient, tofu-like texture.”
