And Male Teachers Were Assumed to be the Perverts

I’m always a bit fascinated by the story of the female high school teacher that gets sexually involved with a student, and I guess that’s because it’s always been assumed that it’s the male teacher can’t be trusted and such things are just high school male fantasy lore.  The public perception has always been that the female teacher is the more mature and responsible one when it came to dealing with the opposite sex, and that it would be preposterous for a female teacher to get involved with a student, that’s it’s nothing but just a young male’s fantasy.  Heck, you really never hear of male teachers taking advantage of students . . . I mean, you do, but not to the extend that you hear about female teachers having relations with their male students.

My blogging friend Barry over at LiberallyLean.com has a good bit on his website where he keeps track of such female educator indiscretions, I guess it’s his service to the public.

I can’t decide if  . . .

A. Female teachers have always taken advantage of their male students and were not getting caught.

B. Female teachers have been taking advantage of their male students, have been caught, bit the story was not made public.

C. Stories of male teachers taking advantage of female students aren’t getting reported.

D. This is a fairly new thing.

E. Or something else.

Anywho, below is a list of articles my friend Barry (at least I hope I can call him a friend) has posted that involve female teachers getting involved with male students.  I did my best to edit out any updates, and some are missing because he’s included them in his Daily Thoughts (highly similar to Bag of Randomness).  I’m referencing it because it’s the only ‘definitive’ source I can find that tracks such things.

Most of this all came to mind because of the latest and craziest story of the year regarding this topic.

  • I haven’t hand waxed a car since I was a teen.  My gosh, now that I think about it, it’s been about two decades since I hand waxed a car by myself.  Anywho, I gave it a try yesterday only to be interrupted by two neighbors.  One of those neighbors has a wife that is going in for surgery regarding her breast cancer this week, and the other let me know for the first time that his son died in a drive-by shooting as a Texas Tech student back in March.  The wax got pretty darn hard during all my talking and the sun actually set, but I think talking to my neighbors was well worth the hard wax dilemma.
  • I’ve lived in Lewisville for just about a decade and have never visited Sneaky Pete’s.  I’m just not a lake guy.
  • From my house, the Dallas County line is probably just a few hundred yards, if that.  We heard planes flying about a hundred feet from the ground doing their West Nile mosquito spraying thing.
  • We at at Randy White’s BBQ the other day.  The BBQ was decent, but the line was extremely slow for being so short, and I couldn’t figure out why.  I mean, it was insanely slow.
  • I noticed rice was an available side but couldn’t figure out if it was a Spanish rice, some kind of pilaf, or something else.  When I asked the guy behind the counter if that was Spanish rice, he just smile and pointed to the rice and said, “Rice.”  When I asked what kind of rice, he did the same thing.  We played that game a few more rounds and I just gave up and realized he didn’t speak a lick of English.
  • I noticed they had a bit of a Pancho’s raise the flag thing going, except with Texas flags.
  • It’s not a breastaraunt or anything, but one of their female employees looked like a younger version of Erin Andrews.
  • With every meal you get free ice cream and peach cobbler, and hot steamed towels are also readily available.
  • I guess saying hot and steamed is being a bit redundant.  But then again, so is saying cheddar cheese . . . is there any other kind of cheese . . . or tuna fish . . . there’s only one kind of tuna.
  • I watched The Hunger Games over the weekend.  To be honest, I enjoyed the Wikipedia write up about the book much better than the movie.
  • The Container Store sure does like their prices.  I wanted to buy some wall shelving for my home office and it was going to cost me over $200.  The next day I went to my local Ace Hardware and bought almost the same thing for $35.
