Cheerleaders in Kountze, Texas told to hold off on Bible verses
The small Hardin County community of Kountze is rallying behind the high school’s cheerleaders after the squad members were told they could not use scripture verses on their signs at the football games.
Amanda Coplen, mother of cheerleader Morgan Coplen, said the squad planned several weeks ago to use scripture verses on the signs they paint for the football team to run through at the start of the games.
Coplen said no one really seemed to notice the scripture verse at the team’s first home game, but after the second game and second sign, pictures of the squad’s signs went viral on Facebook.
“We got calls and texts saying it was great that the girls did that,” Coplen said.
Some, however, did not think it was so great.
