Bag of Randomness

  • Are there any TV dinners that still use an aluminum container?  I have somewhat found memories of eating a Salisbury steak out of them.
  • The refund for my Texas Rangers ALDS tickets will take two to four weeks.
  • If you’ve been a fan of the couch gag on “The Simpsons” you now have your chance to submit your own idea, and later this season it could be part of the show’s iconic introduction.
  • I’m just wrapped up my Jim Lehrer book about presidential debates and discovered something I didn’t know about the Lincoln-Douglas debates, that all seven of them were organized by two Chicago newspapermen who were open supporters of Lincoln, and after each debate  all the press coverage favored Lincoln.  Lehrer also goes on to explain that what we know about those debates have become a bit of myth and folklore, and that they didn’t really engage each other, but really just long questions and gave long answers.
  • Lehrer also stated, and I guess I never noticed it, but when Dan Rather was part of CBS News he never called these events “presidential debates” but “joint appearances” since he didn’t really consider them real debates.
  • Of all the presidents and presidential candidates that have been interviewed for Lehrer’s book, only GHW Bush thought debates should not be a required part of the process to be elected.
  • Obama vs. Romney Compared to Obama vs. McCain
  • I recently discovered that some technology companies will deliberately leave errors in their products and typos in their manuals to see and to have proof of when Chinese companies blatently copy their creations.
  • Last nights “30 for 30” on Ben Johnson was much better than expected, and I had no idea there were so much hatred between he and Carl Lewis.
  • Carl Lewis has been a vegan since 1990.
  • Lewis has all his gold medals but one from 1984, the one in which he won the 100 meters; he buried it with his father.
  • Ben Johnson’s best time on steroids was 9.79.  The current world record that’s held by Usain Bolt is 9.58.
