Bag of Randomness

  • Months ago while placing DaughterGeeding on her bed I accidentally hit her head on the headboard, but to play if off I said “bonk” right after it happened.  Now, every night when I pick her up and put her to bed, she makes sure I gently hit her head on the headboard and she says “bonk”.
  • Our pediatrician called to inform us that SonGeeding’s lead level is a bit high.  Per the CDC, anything above 5 micrograms per deciliter is a concern, and SonGeeding is 6 micrograms per deciliter.  Granted he’s not that high above what he should be, and up until earlier this year the concern level use to be 10 micrograms per deciliter, but it’s still a concern especially when it comes to development at this early stage of life, and it’s even a bigger concern when it’s your actual kid.  We were also told this was the first time in four years the doctor had to inform anyone of a high lead level.  The culprit appears to be an hold decorative hutch with flaky paint, which usually means lead paint.  We’re thinking that tiny bits have fallen off and when our boy crawls next to it, specs get on his hands and he later put those hands in his mouth.  As of yesterday afternoon, the hutch is now in the garage and that area has been thoroughly cleaned.
  • I’m sure all parents will agree, when stuff like this happens, you’re pretty hard on yourself.
  • Four times in the past week when I put on a pair of socks, I’ve found a new worn hole.  You know you are an adult when you want new socks for Christmas.
  • That first week back to work after Thanksgiving is a long one, isn’t it? #FirstWorldProblems

  • The Texas Supreme Court is working on approving do-it-yourself divorce forms.  I’m a bit surprised we haven’t heard protests that the sanctity of marriage is being threatened and that by simplifying the process, divorce is only being encouraged.
  • My least favorite Simpson characters are Sideshow Bob and the hillbilly family.
  • I always wondered why the commercial planes we fly on don’t look much different than what’s been in the air for the last 40 or so years.  But perhaps the future holds something with boxed wings.
