  • The incident regarding the late Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher is depressing.  When I first heard the news, no news organization confirmed the player’s name, but Twitter had its suspicions, and creepily his Wikipedia page already had his date of death.
  • There was another NFL tragedy that happened on Saturday but didn’t get much attention.  In Cleveland, a Browns groundskeeper committed suicide at the team’s training facility.
  • The city of Dallas, SMU, and HP plan on building a new golf course to lure the Byron Nelson.  It would be crazy in a span of ten years for the city of Irving to lose the Cowboys and this golf tournament.
  • It’s December and we actually ran the AC this weekend.  It’s amazing to think we actually had a white Christmas not too long ago.
  • I think I may have mowed the lawn for the last time this year.  The motivation to mow wasn’t so much to cut the grass, but to mulch the leaves since I can’t stand raking leaves and putting them in a bag.
  • While mowing I saw my neighbor get into his truck and drive to work.  It was a bit interesting thinking that I was going to see him work on national television in three hours.  I wanted to stop him and tell him he wasn’t getting low enough in his stance prior to the snap, but he seemed to be in a hurry.  I have a feeling he won’t be my neighbor next year.
  • As soon as I finished the lawn I turned on the TV and was lucky enough to catch Andrew Luck’s game winning drive.  My gosh, it was such a pleasure watching him go to work.  I’d like to know more about the last play of the game.  It looked like that it was designed for Luck to follow his receiver into the endzone and accept a pitch if he got into trouble.
  • The Colts are 8-4 with a rookie QB and losing their head coach as he fights cancer.
  • Why must the art work at Cowboys Stadium coordinated by Gene Jones be mentioned at every home game?
  • I think NBC is catching on to Jerry’s grandson’s act.  That kid loves creeping into shots, especially once the camera is placed on his grandfather.  Last night NBC made sure just to zoom in on Jerry’s face, and when his grandson made an effort to get in the shot, they zoomed in tighter on Jerry’s tight face.
  • Romo’s wife sure did get a lot of screen time.
  • Last night for Advent, we read the story of Jesus’ birth to our kiddos.  Before reading the story we explained that Jesus was the son of God and who God was, the creator of everything who loves us.  After we read the story, DaughterGeeding was confused because Jesus had two dads, Joseph and God, and one mom.
  • I’ve been playing catch-up with the DVR and finally got to watch the eight-hour miniseries The Men Who Built America.  I’ve always heard of the names of John D. Rockefeller, Cornelius Vanderbilt, Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford and J.P. Morgan, but never really knew much about the men, well, with the exception of Ford and Morgan.  If you got the time, I highly recommend it, but here are a few things that stood out:
    • If you take the top 40 richest people in the world today and total their wealth, it would equal the wealth of Rockefeller, Carnegie, and Morgan, who were all alive and competing against one another at the same time.
    • The amount Carnegie sold his steel empire to JP Morgan would be equal to $300 billion today.
    • In today’s dollars, when Rockefeller was at his richest, he was worth $660 billion.
    • In their lifetime, Carnegie gave away $67 billion in today’s money.   Rockefeller gave away $100 billion.

  • The CW is working on a new Wonder Woman show that focuses on her teenage life before she becomes Wonder Woman.  I like that photo of Wonder Woman in that link, even if it’s just cosplay.
  • The last time the U.S. paid off the national debt was during Andrew Jackson’s presidency and it only lasted a year.
  • The U.S. Olympic team posted a nine-minute video of soccer star Alex Morgan doing nothing but yoga.  No dialog, no mention about the benefits of yoga and how it helps with soccer, just Alex Morgan doing nothing but yoga.
