  • This has got to be the weirdest Texas summer ever.  WFAA said we’ll be in the 80’s until Wednesday, and that high will only be 90.  Heck, yesterday morning sitting in church with the colder and wet weather I was wondering if I was going to get home before Cowboys kickoff.
  • I’m always amazed at the lack of discipline of Christians who continually arrive late to a church service.  The only two excuses they have for their consistency in a late arrival is laziness and rudeness.  I guess one advantage of having a military father is I’m early for everything, and that rings true today, even with a wife and two kids.

  • I didn’t plan on watching FX’s new show The Bridge but I head so many great things about it I caught the rerun of the pilot.  Going into it I had no idea what I was getting in to, and that in itself made it kinda cool, and I loved the show.  I’d certainly recommend it if you are into mystery, suspense, drama, and a lot of edginess.  In terms of casting and acting, the man playing Marco is doing a fantastic job.  I did a little research and found that it’s adapted from a European show about a bridge connecting Denmark and Sweden, and in this case, it’s a bridge connecting Mexico and the U.S. at El Paso.
  • One other thing about ‘The Bridge’, I wish they would have named Ted Levine’s character something other than Hank because it made me think of another law enforcement character near the border from another great drama . . . Hank, from ‘Breaking Bad’.
  • My NFL offensive tackle neighbor was once again doing yard work shirtless, but this time his wife or girlfriend was helping him.  She kept her shirt on, but she ended up drying him off with a towel wiping off all his sweat.
  • I saw a new sexy Fiat commercial on television the other night that’s based during the time of the American Revolution and instead of “the British are coming” it’s “the Italians are coming.”  It ends with a woman saying, “This is going to be so much better than the tea party.”  I have a feeling the Tea Party folks are going to feel like that’s a insult directed at specifically at them.
  • The only thing I’ll say about the Zimmerman trial is that I found the defense attorney’s closing argument inarguable, “If you have a reasonable doubt of whether he was justified in the use of deadly force, he’s not guilty.”  I’ll admit, I learned that from Barry’s blog.  I wish I was in a profession in which I could enlighten or educate others via a blog like him.  If I wrote about my profession, y’all fall asleep.
  • OK, one more thing.  Sadly, I think a lot of folks were disappointed there was some kind of massive riot.
  • A U.S. President is never really on vacation, I understand that, but when I saw a tweet from FactHive stating that George W. Bush had more vacation days than JFK was in office, I had to do a little research because that seemed far fetched.  Multiple sources state that Bush spent 487 days at Camp David, 490 days at his Texas ranch, and 43 days at Kennebunkport, Maine, for a total of 1,020 days.  JFK was in office for a total of 1,036 days.
  • I wonder what happened to all the of the tampons and sanitary napkins that were confiscated at the Texas Capitol on Friday.  Surely they could have been donated instead of thrown in the trash.

  • I had no idea that lava can flow as fast as 40 mph.
  • Per this SI.com article, other than Babe Ruth, no other player in MLB history has ever had that last name.  That article states that Ruth also never work the famous inter-locking NY logo as it wasn’t part of the uniform until two years after he left the team in 1934.  The article isn’t exactly correct.  While he never wore the interlocking NY as an active player, he did wear it at a reunion of Yankee all-stars in 1948.

  • Alice Cooper Thinks Mumford & Sons And The Lumineers Are An Offense To Rock ‘n’ Roll – This is a bit surprising to me as Cooper is a born-again-Christian and Mumford & Suns is basically a Christian group.  But then again, I guess he can differentiate faith and the genre of Rock.
  • If I’m going to throw a drink away, I’ll first pour out the liquid contents.  I guess that comes from having to work a job or two in which I had to take out the trash which had liquids in it, the liquids made the trash bag heavy and if there was a tear, there was a high possibility of a messy disaster.  I thought of that yesterday when I saw a kid at church throw away a cup half full of water and an adult jovially corrected him; but the funny thing was, the teenager’s parent was right there.
  • JK Rowling wrote a crime novel under the alias of Robert Galbraith and it got rave reviews.  Even though I haven’t read one Harry Potter book or seen one of those movies, there’s a lot I admire about that woman.  She came from humble beginnings, got kids to believe that reading is cool, is a huge philanthropist, and there many other things.  And after she was revealed as the author, the Amazon sales for the book soared more than 507,000%.
