Bag of Randomness
- I baked my first cake yesterday with the help of DaughterGeeding for WifeGeeding’s birthday, which is today. I shall admit it is a boxed caked.
- The other day I saw a bumper sticker that said “I Am Second Extreme”. The first thought that entered my mind was, why don’t you say you are just third, forth, or fifth?
- Speaking of I Am Second, their latest spokesperson is RA Dickey. I recently watched the documentary Knuckleball and have now have profound respect for him and Tim Wakefield. I should also include Charlie Hough in that list since as I kid I couldn’t stand him as a Ranger. He just looked big, old, and out of shape, but now I understand the skill it takes to throw suck a sophisticated ball. I do have two complaints about the documentary, I don’t think it ever showed a really good visual of what a knuckleball actually does, and it should have also profile Chelsea Baker, a teen who throws the knuckleball against boys and has already been given a contract to play in Japan. The girl has already thrown two perfect games and was coached by legendary knuckleballer Joe Niekro. For the best segment you’ll see on her, check out this ESPN ten- minute video and article. For you baseball folks, it will be well worth your time. I so hope she can play in the majors one day.
- Of all all-star games, I like MLB’s the best because it’s the most “real” and players get to wear their actual uniforms. Not to mention, there’s a lot of history and nostalgia to the game.
- The audio for “Sweet Caroline” last night was horrible. And did anyone notice two female Rangers fans during the song? To borrow a phrase from a good blogging friend . . . Hey now.
- Last night was the last time you will ever see a player wear 42 at an MLB All-Star game. I think Riveria actually cried on the mound.

- Texas Monthly has always done a great job with their covers.
- I’m surprised that there’s been so little traction on the story of the Corpus Christi judge that was shot dead in his chambers. Considering the DA that was killed earlier this year on the streets, I thought this was much bigger.
- I’ve been addicted to the old Johnny Carson interviews that airs on TCM. Two things kinda stands out, you tend to see the old boom mic often and celebrities like to point it out or play with it, which is something that is not in use today. And the other involves Johnny’s pace and going to commercials. When I was in the audience for a taping of ‘Late Night with Conan O’brien’ there was a man just off camera next to the guest who held up flash cards that showed how much time until commercial. It was really crazy how close he was to the guest, but from that point, I can kinda tell how the host will rush an interview or just be a bit off-paced, as if the time is a hindrance. Carson never seems bothered by the timing, and when it was time for a commercial, the band would start quietly playing.

Raven Rescue
A wild raven perched himself on our fence and squawked for over an hour. I went to see what was up with him and saw that he had four porcupine quills stuck in him, three in the side of his face and one in his wing. This video shows my Mom taking out the ones in his face. Very bizarre he let us get that close and even more bizzare he let my Mom pull the quills out. He hung around for the day and was gone the next. Best of luck Wilfred (yeah, I named him)
Sidenote: I’m annoyed when people can’t hold their phones correctly when recording video.
