  • I’m not sure if I was surprised or disappointed or confused that yesterday’s school shooting wasn’t the top story on many news websites.
  • I’m amazed at how petty things can get in the way of how a church operates.  I think this will be my last time taking an active leadership role in a church.
  • I don’t remember this episode of ‘Breaking Bad’.
  • A Republican Judge from San Antonio, Texas, has announced he is quitting the GOP and will seek re-election as a Democrat, saying that he can no longer be part of political party whose identity is based on hate, bigotry and destroying people’s lives.
  • I may be working on a government project for a web-based application that is directly tied to the Affordable Healthcare Act, but I’m certainly glad I’m not a part of healthcare.gov.
  • A reader sent me an email stating that the highest ranked opponent Baylor has played this year is 53rd ranked Kansas State, and the next highest was 64th ranked West Virginia.  He went on to inform me that their next opponent is 98th ranked Kansas and he provided me this USA Today link as a source for his information.  While I agree those are weak teams, they can’t help who they play in their own conference, but those non-conference games are another story.
  • U2 released their first new song in three years for a Nelson Mandela movie, you can hear it in the movie trailer here.
  • Uncle Barky is reporting that the CBS Evening News will broadcast from Dallas on Nov 22, and I believe NBC Nightly News will as well.  Bob Schieffer who was with the Fort Worth Star Telegram on that day and actually drove Oswald’s mother to the police station will be in Dallas for that Sunday’s ‘Face the Nation’ and the day before will host a primetime special about that day.
  • I’m glad I’m not watching ‘Homeland’ this year.
  • Running up the score isn’t bullying, but it’s not the best of sportsmanship.  Sure, beat the crud out of them, but don’t shove their face in it.
  • I’m not sure anyone remembers ReplayTV but I wish that DVR would have gained more traction.  Not only would it allow you to skip commercials entirely, but you could send a friend with a ReplayTV any television program you recorded.
  • There was a reunion of ‘The Waltons’ on ‘Good Morning American’ and one cast member wore a Jason Witten jersey.  That’s choice (only local folks will get that joke).
  • One question I wish I could ask my dad right now if he were alive, at what age did you start going gray?  I only saw my father with gray hair, I only saw my mother with black hair and she never dyed it.

  • I don’t know why I did it, I guess I got caught up in the moment, but I actually called The TICKET on Friday and somehow got on air.  The phone rang one time and someone picked up, and then my heart just started to pound and my throat got dry.  I was asked my question and was told to hold on.  When I got on the air I asked them to compare the Nolan/JD relationship with Jimmy/Jerry and then asked Junior to rank the Jacksons starting with Keith, Bo, Reggie, Andrew, and Michael.  They chuckled and Junior said he would do me a favor and rank them the next week.  You can hear me starting around the 5:09 mark.
  • I watched the ‘Breaking Bad’ finale for a second time and I’m not buying the dream theory.  But then again, I’m the only one, and I still stand by my thought that in Walt’s last conversation with Skylar he only said he did not for the family but for himself so he could end things on good terms with Skylar and she would allow him to see his daughter for the the last time.  Also, I was able to catch the moment when Walt got injured and this time noticed his grin as we walked through the lab.
  • I must have seen the “Ice Ice Baby” video a hundred times as a teen, but I never noticed that Vanilla Ice was dancing in front of the Dallas skyline.  Yes, I know he grew up in the area but I never noticed that skyline in the video.
  • While cleaning out some boxes in the garage I found an old notebook I used in college course that I took with DaughterGeeding’s namesake.  I found and forgot that I kept a tally of us competing who many times we could get the professor off topic.
  • A Hell House thought it would be worth while to include school shootings.
  • Most Impressive – 6-Year-Old Abilene Girl Sets Half-Marathon World Record
  • Evidence there’s absurdity in college football rankings – Despite running up the score on high school teams, playing the bottom dwellers of their conference, and only playing one road game this season, Baylor is ranked eighth in the county.  Their season starts off pretty easy next year as well as their first three opponents are SMU, Northwestern State, and Buffalo.
  • That was quite a touching moment in Indianapolis when Peyton Manning acknowledged the crowd, and I certainly didn’t expect Indy to play as well as they did.
  • Man, those Chiefs are something else, I’ve never seen Andy Reid looked so happy and less stressed.
  • How the heck did the Jets beat the Pats?
  • There is one thing the college game can never capture from the pro game.  You can’t follow a player like Elway or Manning for ten or fifteen years as they face adversity and come ever so close to being on top of the mountain only to be kicked down, and then finally celebrate with them when they finally stand on that mountaintop after a full career of work to get to that moment.
  • I never liked Elway for how forced the team that drafted him, the Colts, to trade him.  It’s also another reason I’ve never been much of an Eli Manning fan, but I do certainly respect their talents and performance on the field.
  • Looking at Bum Phillips in the 70’s and 80’s I never would have thought he’d live to 90.  I thought it was interesting that a common picture of him was a silhouette of him in his hat at Texas Stadium.
  • Arnold Schwarzenegger is a fun and interesting follow on Twitter and Reddit.  He recently linked to articles in the LA Times and NY Times about how he helped lead the way to get rid of gerrymandering and how California has much less partisan politics.  I also recently learned about a political advocacy group called No Labels from Buzzfeed which describes itself as “a national movement of hundreds of thousands of Republicans, Democrats and independents promoting a new politics of problem solving.”  Currently there are 87 House and Senate members and it’s co-chaired by co-chaired by former Republican Utah governor and ambassador Jon Huntsman and Democrat West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin.  I really admire and respect Huntsman and thought he was the best Republican presidential candidate during the last election.
  • Guess you never thought I’d praise two former Republican governors.
  • I thought ’60 Minutes’ was a bit unfair to Dick Cheney last night.  He seemed to be endorsing a book about heart health and Dr Sanja Gumpta appeared to just focus on whether or not his heart condition hurt his performace as Vice President.

  • I was real frustrated with the ‘Mythbusters’ zombie special, especially how the tested kills with an axe.  They used a foam axe that left a green paint mark when it struck an object, but never took into account how an axe could get stuck or embedded in a head which would take precious moments away from getting ready for the next kill.  They also focused too much on the adage of zombies eating brains, which was really only part of a story line of one zombie movie, everyone know zombies just prefer flesh.
  • I identified a lot with this post – The Problem With Asking Questions About Faith 
  • I mentioned last week that ’60 Minutes’ stated that San Francisco, Boston, and Manhattan could fit inside Detroit and a reader provided me stats that that wasn’t true.  But when I do a Google search it seems to be a somewhat common perception.
  • A pretty innovative package for a burger, fries, and a soft drink.
  • As an exercise for self control, when I drive home from going through the drive-thru I never eat a fry on the ride home.  Now if I only had the self control to not make the trip in the first place.
  • A picture I’ve never seen of JFK’s car speeding to Parkland.

The most fascinating video of ‘Let It Be’ you’ll ever see

This video was posted in 2010 but it’s the first I’ve seen of it, and it’s beyond amazing. This is what you get when you put ‘We Are The World’, the Beatles, a green screen, and stars from the 80’s and 90’s in a blender and pour it out. It’s the greatest music video ever made in the history of ever.

The Peter Faulk wave out of nowhere is one of my highlights.

A bit confusing

 

I was looking at the website of my hometown newspaper and this picture and caption caught my eye.  Originally I thought it was a picture from a practice because of the same color uniforms, but the caption states it’s a picture taken from a game.  If that’s true, those jerseys looked pretty similar, but I think I can tell a bit of color difference in helmet color and I can’t see the front of the quarterback’s jersey to see a true difference, but I’m surprised one team isn’t wearing a light color.
